Anyone here shooting with a Panisonic LX Series Compact P&S? Or more specifically with the Lumix DMC-LX3? I would love to hear what you think of it or see some examples.

I am looking for a Compact or Ultra-Compact for my wife to use. (She was using a Nikon D40 but wants to go back to something that fits in her handbag.) And I also want to get something that I might want to use once in a while. I don't know much about compact cameras but this one seemed to have some good features.

  • Image Stabilization
  • Shoots in RAW or JPG
  • 24-60mm Range @ f2.0-f2.8
  • ISO 80-6400 (I can only imagine what 6400 looks like)
  • Average- Center Weighted- and Spot Metering
  • 10 Megapixels (More than enough)
  • Manual Controls Including Focus

The full review is HERE.

I am also looking at a few others- including the Canon G10. I am also open to suggestions for something with similar features.

Jeff...I have heard great things about the LX3. The article below is from Scott Bourne. He has a podcast I listen to (which is fantastic btw...This week in photography)

He did a review on it and liked it better than both the G9 and G10.

FWIW...I think that LR2 just came out with the update to its camera profiles so now you can use RAW files in LR2.

Here is his review.

Thanks for the link- that was a helpful article.

No problem...

I have wondered though...why the username change? I have wondered for a while, but never asked....maybe I missed a thread somewhere....

Hi Jeff. I have the Panasonic Lumix TZ5. I'm not familiar with the camera you posted, but I'm pretty sure the TZ5 has less options for manual control than what the LX3 does. However, the TZ5 has a 10x optical zoom, which I'm quite fond of. I also like the "Intelligent Auto" mode, for when I don't feel like messing around with settings.

I had a G9 for awhile, before selling it on eBay. (I decided it was too big and heavy for a "purse" camera.) I'm not sure if the G10 has the same problem, but there were a lot of reported lens error problems with the G9.
