It's great to see everyone joining in here!!! Carla and Linda I'm so glad you stopped by as well. I know it's comforting for me to have someone else here that's btdt with the IVF cycles.

QOTD from yesterday: I'm HORRIBLE at keeping secrets so most of our friends know, several of my coworkers know and our moms know. I don't want to tell my dad b/c I know his personality and he'll give my dh a hard time since he has azoospermia.

I'm also on metformin to control my insulin levels. The dr couldn't give me a full diagnosis of PCOS, but she thinks the metformin will help me during the treatments.

We're heading out on vacation tomorrow so I'll check back in with you all on the 13th. Best of luck to everyone!!

Hi Everyone

It is nice to meet all of you. We are planning very soon. Doctors orders: so I am trying to lose 25 pounds first which is quite hard coz I have some medical problems. Anyway, I am a few months away from 30 and my dh is 36. We have been married close to six years and I have wanted children from a few years ago but had to wait to have surgery and sort out my medical problems. Good news is that doctor says everything is fine and if I can lose at least 20 pounds, I am good to start. The dr did say I might have complications because I have very irregular periods *sigh*! I am looking forward to the next months and hope that we can conceive within the year end. I guess we have to stay positive. Our trips to Disney really lefts my spirits up and I love planning. The most difficult part of this journey is my husbands family - they ask us too many personal questions and even have said we are getting old but I try to dust it off. I wish all of you the best.

QOTD (5/3) : Are you sick to death of the question "When are you going to have a baby?" Or do people even ask?

No one has really asked us. Every now and then we'll get asked, "When are you having another", but it's usually only when we're around others with young babies. I think everyone knows that we were waiting until after we bought a house. Maybe now that we are getting a house the questions will increase.

I think once we do get pg, we'll wait for a while to tell people, but I am going to be bursting! I am horrible with secrets.

This is such a relief to talk to people who know what I'm going through, and who are going through similar, if not the same, situations.

I guess it just seems like no one esle gets it. Everyone in RL is like, "Relax" and "You're so young." I know! But, getting pregnant is still all I think about some days! It's the next life step, you know? Mark and I have been together and we're ready. Just got to get our bodies to cooperate!

Not to pry, but have you had DH tested or had an HSG? You really shouldn't be on Clomid that long since it tends to thin the lining of the uterus which hampers implantation - usually 6 months is a doctor's limit. There is another drug called Femara that acts like Clomid, but doesn't have the same thinning side effect. So, if you're afraid of the needles, you could ask for that instead. They're not that bad most of the time. There was a period of time where I told DH that I was "immune to ice" because no matter how much I iced the spot, it hurt like heck. I dropped a few F-bombs and hopped around a bit, but I got over it pretty fast.

The reason I am asking is because clomid can have some side effects that can interfere with conception even if ovulation occurs (drying out of mucous, LPD, and thin uterine lining). You might want to consider asking your dr. if letrozole would be an option for you before moving onto the heavier injectibles. Letrozole induces ovulation like clomid but does not have the side effects. It is a milder drug, though, so if you are not ovulating on clomid it is doubtful letrozole would work for you either.

Isn't that the truth! I tried for a year before conceiving DD#2 so I know more than I ever wanted to know about female reproductive issues!

DH did all of the testing, and he was fine. All of my labwork (except a 3hr GTT) was normal. My doc didn't do an HSG. His reasoning was that we already know I have PCOS, and very irregular periods. He said if my periods became more regular, and could tell through charting that I was ovulating, but not getting pregnant, then he would do an HSG.

I'm pretty sure I'm a moron at all of the charting. I try to take it at the same time every day, but I work 24 hour shifts at the fire department, so the whole part about after 5 hours of uninteruppted sleep doesn't always happen. The charts usually look like an earthquake, with no real defined curve to them.

I haven't used any of the ovulation indicators or the Clear Blue monitor. I'm thinking about getting one, but haven't decided which to get.

In a nutshell, after 2 1/2 years of intfertility treatments, I asked to be tested for PCOS. I had it, I started meds, and was PG within three weeks. They should have paid me for the diagnosis. I should have spoken up months earlier, but went along with the process, not realizing I had never been tested. Information is your friend!

Don't be afraid to ask for a referral to a reproductive endocrinologist if you feel you have come to an impasse with your OB/GYN. And remember, it often takes a long time to get an appointment with and RE, so ask early, and continue to chart your temp as evidence you have been trying for a certain lentgh of time.

Good luck to you Kristy! And happy practicing dadto1. We are at the practicing stage too, but I wish DH was shooting blanks instead of me being on the pill, but that's a subject for another thread.

I, also have PCOS. It took my DH and me 7 years to get that diagnosis, as the doctor we were seeing didn't want to admit he didn't know what was going on and instead just kept upping my dosage of Clomid. Ick.

Anyway, we've done Super Ovulation and are the proud parents of a 9 year old daughter, a 6 year old son, and twin 4 year old daughters! Now, I say we're done, but DH wants another son! I keep telling him we don't have the money or the energy to go through another bout of the super ovulation!

Jen, has your doctor done any bloodwork later in your cycle? They usually do it on CD21, which is 7DPO for "normal" women. My doctor would just schedule it for 10 days after my last pill. They test your P4 to confirm ovulation.

If you have PCOS, the sticks might make you crazy. If your LH is elevated from the PCOS, you could be getting false positives all over the place. The monitor is great, but if you're on more than 50mg of Clomid, the monitor is unreliable. The only way to tell is ultrasound monitoring and P4 testing. They should monitor you to check for developing follicles and then test the P4 to confirm good ovulation once they see the follicles are ruptured.

Have they put you on Metformin along with the Clomid? If you're insulin-resistant, the Metformin will work with the Clomid to get you ovulating. If not, you might be looking at the injections. The good news is, they have less side effects than the Clomid. No more hot flashes or raving lunatic behavior!

My sister has/had PCOS and this worked for her - after years of TTC with clomid and 2 miscarriages, she now has a beautiful 20-month-old little girl.

I haven't done any bloodwork later in the cycle. I am taking the Glucophage (1500mg/day). The side effects of that are kind of charming (and could be counter-productive to my DH actually wanting to have a child )

I could probably deal with the shots if it meant no more Clomid. That stuff is not pleasant, but at least I have a good excuse to be REALLY moody.

No, you're definitely not a know it all. All of the advice is great, and gives me some hope that if Clomid doesn't work, that I'm not all done.

Hi,

My DH (31) and I (27) have been TTC #1 for 5 months so far. I have read through TCOYF and love it. I used OPK's the first few months, then last month we were on vacation (cruise) and just BD like crazy. Still nothing. I have always checked CM and CP as well, but just this month started temping. We are embarking on a new career for DH and a move this summer so while we didn't want to stop trying we said we would not TRY AS HARD (yeah right!! tell that to a woman!). I started temping because I am very curious about my cycle. I have a 27-29 day cycle with ++ OPK's and O pain on the 15th day, almost to the minute. So since we haven't gotten PG yet over the last few month with some perfectly timed BD, I wonder if my cycle isn't as normal as I think. I don't have any fertility issues that I am aware of (have been PG in the past) but DH has never been tested. He actually said after our cruise if we weren't PG he would get a SA done, but we are going to wait a few more months for that.

I am so excited every morning to take my temp! It silly really. For the last five mornings my temp was 97.7 every morning at 6:15am, then it was 97.8 for todays and this AM it was 97.5. I thinking it will shoot up tomorrow since today is what should be O day..... we BD last night.. so hopefully. I have class tonight and I don't know if I can't get DH into it tonight... he hates the planning so I will embrace the wait and see what happens mentality!

QOTD: My husband is more relaxed about the whole process, and at first I would get upset that he wasn't as interested in every little detail that I read to him out of "What to Expect" or "TCOYF"- but last weekend he picked up "The Expectant Father" and he has been reading it, and telling me everything in it!!

It has him much more excited to get this baby business going!! AF is still here, but by tomorrow we'll resume activity!!
