I hope everything with your blood work went ok today!

I wanted to ask you a question about glucophage/metaroim (I think I am spelling metaroim wrong...)

But anyway - I thought I recall you saying you were taking that drug and I wanted to know what kind of reaction (if any) you are having with it. My doctor just prescribed it to me because I am borderline diabetic and she thought it would help with weight loss as well...

I took my first pill this morning at around 8am and then around 11am I had horrible cramps and had to run to the bathroom...I thought I remember you saying something about stomach problems from this pill.

Just wondering -- any info would be appreciated!

I am sincerly hoping it helps with weight loss -- I just joined weight watchers and I am going to *try* to lose 40lbs between now and Jan 1 (since I think my implanation will be done in January).

Thanks again.

~Nicole

Nicole - Not Carla, here, but I took metformin for PCOS for three weeks before I got PG with Hannah. Yes, it causes stomach issues, and I was pretty miserable in the bathroom a lot during those three weeks. And I lost 13 lbs.

Hi everybody!

Nicole, I've been taking metformin for about 8 months now. It does cause quite a bit of diarrhea, but I've never had stomach problems with it. However, I tend to have an iron stomach, so that helps :)

Michelle - Good luck with this round!

Carla - how did everything go with the lab today?

LisaB - enjoy the break. Skip the bills, they're not much fun anyways :)

KimnTrent, KimR, ImarriedGrumpy - How are things going for you all?

I have my first OB visit on Sept 12th. So now I'm just killing time until then. I'll probably drive DH nuts before then. I want everything planned out now!!!! :)

Have a good weekend everybody!

Jen

Thanks Denae and Jen -- glad to hear my diarahha was nothing out of the expected norm....and Denae -- 13lbs in 3 weeks!! I could live with the diarreah if that happens to me!!

I have being doing the Weight Watchers points thing since Tuesday -- it will take a little getting used to but it does not seem that bad (yet). I am even more looking forward to Disney now (in 16 days) because I am eating whatever I want (and not counting points) while in WDW...

Hope all is well with everyone!

Any more metaformin information...bring it on!!

PS: I have STILL not written my stupid insurance appeal letter to try to get the egg donors retrieval covered -- it has been over 3 weeks now... I don't know what is wrong with me. I just need to get off my A$$ and do it but I just cannot!!! I have pretty much resigned myself to the Jan. implanation now instead of November...I will take another stab at writing the stupid letter this weekend and that way I will get an answer in October which would still be enough time for the Nov implanation...seriously - I cannot figure out what my mental block to writing this stupid appeal letter is...I just can't do it!

At least it is a long weekend!

~Nicole

Lisa, sometimes a break is good. Although, you reach a point where you want to DO something.

Jen, I'm so happy things are going smooth for you. The 12th will be here soon. Not soon enough, I know. ;) Any news on the job? Have you told work yet?

Michelle, did you get Pregnyl or the generic form of Pregnyl? Two vials that you have to mix? That's a pain. I always get a rash from it - a big burn-like welt. So, if you get one of those, don't be alarmed. ;) Mine likes to crawl into my belly button. I would think 50mg of Clomid would be good for you.....we don't need 7 follicles. :)

Nicole, I think the Metformin is making me miserable because I have stomach problems anyway. I don't get diarrhea all that often. I think that is because I am on a stomach medication that eases intestinal spasms. My problems are nausea and heartburn. This isn't ordinary heartburn - it's my entire system on fire. Is there a low carb plan on WW? You need to be on a low carb plan - sort of like the South Beach Diet. Not Atkins, because there is too much fat. I found that I can eat YoBaby Yogurt - the little 4oz tubs and the smoothies. I can eat apples, grapes, and cherries. I can eat eggs - cheese omelet or eggs with a vegetable like peppers and mushrooms. I've been shopping in the organic section of the supermarket because the organic milled sugar doesn't bother me. Wheat doesn't either, so I'm able to eat half of an organic burrito or some organic wheat toast. I can eat Pastina. I can eat Lentils....sometimes I add some Pastina to the Lentils. :) I have to eat tiny amounts every 3-4 hours. If I eat too much, I get the burning. If I don't eat every 3-4 hours, I get light headed from low blood sugar. Did you start on a low dose? I started on 500mg and now I'm on 1,000mg. She doesn't want me to go higher than that, but I know lots of people are on higher doses. If you're going to experiment with food - do it at home! :goodvibes

I got my blood drawn - finally. My RE's DH drove it to the lab himself to hand deliver it. She was a bit shocked about my weight loss. I know my clothes are big, but since I see myself every day, it doesn't jump out at me. I haven't seen her in a month so it was a little unsettling for her. She wants me to eat more. Duh.

I got an update on the twins. They have ear infections. One was breathing on her own, but it made her tired, so they put her on a ventilator so she didn't wear herself out breathing. So far, they're making it. She got a steroid shot, which is supposed to mature their lungs and brains rapidly. So, the doctors say their lungs and brains were really 29w3d old. Technology is amazing. It helps those of us who might never have babies and it helps babies who would otherwise not make it. :goodvibes

Hannah was a premie (34 weeks) - although not as early as the twins. She wasn't too terribly sick, but had to stay in the ICN for two weeks because of jaundice, apnea and feeding troubles. It was a very tough time for us, I worried all the time and I still tear up when I think about it too much, but I can't even imagine worrying that she was not going to survive.

The staff at my ICN was wonderful to Hannah and to me. I needed just as much TLC as she did.

Just wanted to pop in and wish you a Happy "Unofficial" End to Summer...hoping this fall brings only happiness to this board :)

Hey everyone! I hope you all had good, relaxing weekends. DH and I were supposed to go visit my old roommate and her DH, but they cancelled because of other stuff that came up. She's preg and due Dec 16th with their first, but they still don't know if it's a boy or a girl because the baby has not been cooperating when they go in for ultrasounds. "Roo" (short for roommate) and I were roommates in WI for almost 7 years starting when I was in grad school, and then we both got married to guys from CA 6 months apart and now we both live out here. She's also 6 months older than I am, so I've been telling DH that clearly I should have a baby 6 months after Roo does and it's time to get moving on that! He's not convinced that this is a good argument. :teeth:

Well, since DH was laid off, the TV has broken (no longer will show a picture with cable or regular TV or VCR but still works with a DVD player), the dryer is starting to go (it pauses ever couple rotations and makes a horrendous noise), my laptop broke (it no longer recognizes when the AC adapter is plugged in so it just drains the battery), and now the microwave is starting to give signs of wearing out. We were in the middle of home improvement projects and were conditionally approved for our loan, but the bank called us and said they have to cancel it because of DH being unemployed. We've already gone through all the paperwork and permits and down payments and everything, and we'll loose a few thousand dollars if we bail on it all now, so we're trying to refinance the morgage to squeeze out enough money to finish the projects. I've taken on a few more kids to watch on a part-time basis in addition to the baby I watch full time, so now I have at least 2 kids with me for half the day, and I do a class with 10 kids every Sunday evening. It brings in a little extra income, and every bit helps.

But now DH is saying that we should wait to start TTC because of all the stuff that seems to be going wrong and all the money issues. :sad1: I've tried pointing out to him that we're going to have health insurance no matter what because we have to keep that going, and the vast majority of baby supplies we'll need we will be able to borrow from friends and family. Heck, the folks I do childcare for have already told me that they are saving all their big baby stuff for us and they'll hang on to it for 5 years if needed. I know there's always extra expenses, but we do have savings. I think he's just worried about what will happen when I'm no longer doing childcare and my income is gone. Oh well. Just when I'd had him persuaded...

Hi all! Just checking in before I run off to work. Can't DIS there, so I'm MIA most of the time. But I do check the alerts I get and read them, so I'm able to keep track of everyone.

Congrats to all the BFPs we've had on here. I do think this board is lucky! Minnesota!, Jen in NH -- so glad to hear everything is going well for y'all. How is Becky? I read all about her terrible MS, but haven't heard much since. Did I miss any updates?

exwdwcm, carla, LisaB and 7beasley (and others), good luck on your baby pursuits. I hope you are successful in the very near future!!

And lastly, welcome to the newbies! So glad to see more TTC'rs!

Morning everyone. I think I have decided to go back to school I am planning to take an Italian course. I have always wanted to learn Italian. I don't know what I am goign to do with it but there is a reason

I hope everyone is doing well.

A little update on me - I am now 8w6d pregnant. I went for an ultrasound last week, and was pleasantly surprised to see that my little bean was right on target! My EDD is 4/12/2007.

I am still somewhat nervous and scared because of my history of prior miscarriages, but I am feeling optimistic. I really feel like this is my last chance - I will be 39 at the end of April, and I don't think I would have the heart to try again if I lost a 5th baby. We haven't told ONE SINGLE person in real life. I think we are going to wait until after the results of my nuchal translucency scan are in - maybe a couple of weeks beyond that.

I hope that you ladies don't mind if I continue to lurk. I hope that you all have some good luck, and soon.

Laurel

Hi all...

Hope everyone is doing well.

Another glucophage/metaformin question for you guys...

I have been taken these pills since Friday Sept 1st (so only a few days) and I have noticed that my pee is incredibly dark - like almost brown dark -- really really dark -- and I know I am not dehydrated because I am doing Weight Watchers which requires alot of water drinking which I have been doing.

Anyway - I looked up glucophage and dark urine on the internet and it says it could be a sign of early liver damage from the drug...I then call my primary care who prescribed the pills and ask her -- nurse talks to doctor and then nurse calls me back and says doctor said dark urine is nothing to be concerned about and to keep taking pills...I tell her internet said it is something to be concerned about and the thing about early liver damage and nurse says doctor knows nothing about that...

Grrr...so either *all* the internet sites are wrong or my doctor is stupid!!

I don't really want to stop taking the glucophage becuase I really think it is helping (5 days of glucophage and 1 week of weight watchers = 5.4lb lost!!) but I also don't want liver damage...

So - any one else who is using/used metaformin have dark pee?

Thanks
Nicole

Just wanted to post a quick reply, I will come back and read tonight.

DH and I had our first Dr. appointment today. We got to see the heartbeat. It was awesome! Dr. said it was 160bpm, very strong. Because of the mc in may we are going back in two weeks for another just for our confidence. I am so excited, seems so real now!!

The Dr. was really nice, we both really liked him. It wasn't wierd that it was a guy, my first guy doctor. The only downside is that he only delievers at one hospital right now and as of last Friday our insurance doesn't do that hospital anymore. The Dr. says this happens every year and it will probably get back on otherwise we will deal with that as well....

Hey Laurel I am going to be 39 at the beginning of April. Good luck with everything

Hi all. I am new to the site and am not sure if this is where I would post, but thought I would try it. DH and I got married on July 22, 2006. I am 30 years old and have DD who will be 10 in January. I have always wanted another child and DH says he does too. But, we are not going to start TTC until April. Which I thought I was fine with. However, a few weeks ago I missed one of my BC pills, of course it was right in the middle of my cycle and things happened the next day. I am on one of the low dose pills that they say are not effective if you are more than 3 hours late. Well, all the suden I was thinking this could happen now... I was a bit nervous about it, and then my period was late. Well, I tested and got a BFN, but now I realize I want to start TTC sooner and don't know how to tell DH. Financially, not a good time. We have a trip to HI planned for April and I really want to go to Disney this summer with DD since she is getting older and it has been a few years since we have gone. I am not real sure what to do...

welcome PoohPrincess! You should sit down with Dh and discuss with him about what you are feeling. See what he thinks. If you hold off a few months, you will be still be in the clear for HI. If you wait just 3 or so months, you can do WDW, too. :)

DMickey - WOO HOO On the heartbeat! Great feeling, no? I have my first OB on Monday. I am hoping for another u/s. How are your symptoms??

Hi everybody!

Princess, I agree with Minnesota. Better to talk to him and decide on everything than for either of you to be upset about it finally happening. As far as vacations go, if you wait a couple of months, you should be set for both of them!

Minnesota, good luck with the appointment. My first is on Tuesday! I'm hoping they'll do a u/s for dates, only because my cycles were so irregular that dates may not be accurate. And because I'm OCD and want to make sure everything is OK :)

DMickey, yay on the heartbeat!!

nicole, I didn't notice that with the metformin. Particularly where you're drinking a lot, that's not quite right. Another sign that goes with the dark urine is clay colored stools (TMI, huh?)

Carla, any results from all the lab work?

Laurel - Congrats!!! I know what you mean about not telling anyone yet. I'm not normally superstitious, but I'm scared to tell people and find out something went wrong. Other than all of you DISser's, the only person I've told is my sister. She was home for this weekend, and we really wanted to tell her in person. I'm even scared to go to the Mommies-to-be thread :guilty:

Lisa, enjoy the Italian. I agre with Syrreal! :)

Michelle - good luck this weekend. Fingers are crossed for good follicles.

BTW, has anyone heard from Becky recently? She must be almost done with the first trimester. Hopefully the morning sickness is over

Jen

Hi Guys...

Quick post because I am exhausted and have to go to bed...

Jen in NH: you are right -- dark colored urine and clay stools (of which I have both) do in fact go together...and guess what they mean!!!

GALLBLADDER ATTACK -- as if life lately already does not suck enough - I had severe stomach pains last night (along with the dark pee and clay colored stools...) so after moaning and rolling around on the bed (and not the fun kind - LOL!!) my husband said that's it - we are going to the ER -- so off we went...

Was in the ER for over 5hrs while they ran tests -- they concluded it was my gallbladder and it probably needed to come right out but they could not send me up to surgery without an ultrasound and could not give me an ultrasound until this morning.

They offered to admit me until morning or let me go home and return this morning at7am -- I picked home and return...back to ER today at 7am where I remained until 7pm this evening -- after ultrasound and a million other tests they concluded severe gall bladder attack -- needs to come out "urgently" but not "emergency" which means no surgery today or tomorrow but surgery end of next week.

But we leave next Sunday the 17th for Disney --- so after a million consults they said I could do the surgery when I got home...

Rotten terrible day...

Hope you guys are all ok though!

Talk to everyone soon.

~Nicole
