Thanks so much for the info, Michelle. I called for an appointment today and wouldn't you know, their computer was down. She sent me an new patient form to fill out and return, which I did so now I'm just waiting for her to call me back to set up an appointment. Even though I am still grieving for my precious baby, it feels good to be DOING something proactive and I am so anxious to get the ball rolling on this.

I did mention my age and she said it's not a problem and that they don't really have an upper age limit. She actually seemed surprised I even questioned it.

Well, I'm off to check out the IVF links now - thank you!

Kim - :grouphug: Sorry about your little girl.

Skuttle - Sorry AF showed. I was really hoping when I got back from my trip you would have good news.

Princess Pooh - Good luck with the July doctor appointment. At this point it will be July before you know it.

Well, I decided not to do the metformin this month. After talking with the doctor about side effects I was nervous as this is a really busy month at work for me with three business trips. We are also leaving for Hilton Head on the 29th. We are just going to take this month as it comes then try metformin for July.

I have another question, maybe someone can help me....
I have an appointment with a RE in July. (Can't come soon enough!!!)
Is a RE a gyno and if so, and you get pregnant, does he/she see you thought the pregnancy as your primary gyno?? Or are they just a middle man and you still go to your regular gyno???

Well, unless things change between now and Friday, I may POAS Friday evening, after DH gets home. No signs of monthly visitors, so I'm not sure what's up. It's possible, but calendar wise-it's not likely. Cycle was 5 weeks on Saturday, and the last one was 5 weeks, 3 days. I had more symptoms last time. Since I haven't been off BCP very long, my cycles are all screwy. We haven't really been trying, so I don't know what to think. At what point would you guys test? I know I wouldn't before DH comes home.

Your RE is not the same as your OB/GYN. If I get pregnant via IVF my RE will follow my progress for approx. 6 weeks and then pass me on to my OB/GYN for follow-ups and ultrasounds. If there are concerns she may keep me till my 12th week.

Hello! I just posted on a different TTC thread on the CB. Skuttle posted a link to this thread (which I have read before, but haven't had the courage to post yet)--I thought this might be a good time to jump in though.

I am 28, married, with two kids (almost 5 and 6). We've been TTC for almost a year now. We had no problem conceiving the first two times. I've gone through the initial tests with my OBGYN and he has determined there is no medical reason why, but apparently I'm not ovulating. I have VERY long cycles...that was my only "symptom". His recommendation is to start on Provera to stimulate a cycle and than take Clomid to cause ovulation. My appointment to start that is next week. I've decided to postpone it until August though. I'd like to get in better shape and straighten some work related stuff out first.

I guess that is all. I'm going to start going back and reading to learn all your stories. I hope you don't mind me joining your group:goodvibes

WDW Aurora - I would wait and test in the morning after your DH comes home. That is when the concentration of the pregnancy hormone is highest. I always had to pee in a cup, since and dip the stick in, because I had to pee so bad when I woke up, I couldn't hit the stick.

Rachie0507 - welcome! And good luck! :wizard:

Princess Pooh, I do hope your doctor will be able to help you out next month

Aurora, I admit I would still test before my DH came home. He was never home when I tested and I just called him. I did the POAS in the evening one day after AF was due and it came up positive so I know while Denae is right about the morning being more concentrated I am not sure I could wait :teeth: If you have two I would do one when he gets home and if negative do one a day or so later in the morning.

Rachie, welcome!!! I wish you all the best!

Sigh.

It's hard. It really is. ANOTHER girl just announced a few minutes ago that she is pregnant. This morning, I found out one of our doctor's wives is pregnant. Then another doctor's wife had their baby last week. In total, I'm now working with 5 women that are pregnant, all due about the same time. It's starting to hurt some.

I'm trying not to let it get to me...but you know... :(

WDWAurora, Friday sounds like a good time to test. My friend who's an OB suggests waiting until you're a week late to test, but I'd be way to curious to do that. I'm so excited for you :hyper:

Welcome Rachie0507 :)

Rachie -

I didn't have time to post before, but my problem was NO cycles due to PCOS. I had to take Provera every month and Clomid. But my care was through a RE, not an OB/GYN, and the RE did u/s monitoring throughout my cycle.

I don't have a lot of faith in OB/GYN's who just start trying things, and I think others here will agree with me. I might go along with it for a couple of months, and then insist on some further testing (like a HSG) and treatment through an RE. I was given an initial diagnosis of unexplained infertility, which turned out to be PCOS. And if your cycles are not regular, and you are in fact not ovulating, it seems to me there must be some reason for it.

Good luck!

Denae

I have to agree with Denae here. I get really sad when I hear about OB/GYNs handing out Clomid. I assume he did the initial CD3 and CD21/7DPO bloodwork since you said he did initial testing. But, an HSG should be done and your DH should be tested before you start Clomid. What about monitoring? Is your OB/GYN going to do blood and ultrasounds to make sure you're not overstimulating and to make sure you're responding at all?

Think of it this way, if a doctor told you they "think" you might have cancer, so they're going to start chemo, would you just go along with that or would you insist on further testing to confirm the diagnosis and to make sure you have all of the facts?

Today is THE DAY. I'm spending it peeing in a jug because my BP is high. I'm having a 24 hour urine test done. We *may* be talking about a weekend induction at my appointment tomorrow. I'm 80% effaced and 2cm dilated. Yippee. I go back tomorrow.....they told me to watch out for headaches and I have one. Sooooo, if my BP is high tomorrow, things could get going. I'm ready. She might be happy in there, but it's time she comes out and shows her little face!

Good luck, Carla! How exciting that you are already at your due date! I'm sure it seemed like forever to you, but it seems like you just announced you were pregnant yesterday to me!

I LOVE what your ticker says right now too..."Mommy is praying I'm not one of those obnoxious too-cool babies who insist on being fashionably late to their own party." Hehehe, my dd was one of those obnoxious babies it is talking about! Looks like yours is too! ;)

Wow Carla- good luck!!! I can't believe the day is already here! peeing in a jug- that sounds fun! i am going to be praying for you all weekend and i can't wait to hear how you and your little girl do. i can't wait to see pics.

Dzny- the RE has specialist training- and is a reproductive endocrinologist. I started with my OB/GYN when i was ready to TTC. After months of temping and being off BCP for 10 years (with no accident and no protection at all), she did some initial testing (b/w, u/s and DH semen analysis), then put me on clomid for 4 months. she did monitor me via u/s and b/w throughout those months. Then i was ready to see an RE- so she then ordered an HSG, i think to 'cover her ***' so the RE saw she did all the basics. I was with the RE for a year in treatments and he released me at 7 weeks into my pregnancy back to my OB/GYN. I know many women stay with their REs well into their pregnancy or until 12 weeks. Some are high risk, but it seems others, well, the RE just wants to continue monitoring for some reason or maybe it is their policy. I only had 2 appts with the RE after my BFP, one for the beta and one at 7 weeks for an u/s. Then i haven't seen him since! \

Carla- so with you on the clomid thing......what is funny is that I hadn't done my homework fully when i started clomid. i wouldn't have known i should be monitored. luckily my GYN did monitor me, but i wouldn't have known the difference. fortunately i started doing research though and educated myself into the cycles. I just die when i see on other TTC boards, women self prescribing clomid- ordering it online from who knows where. heck, they don't even know it is real. it could be something dangerous instead. and they aren't being monitored, meaning they could have a dangerous cyst or other issues. I have a friend sitting out 2 months straight now because her cyst is still there. good thing she was monitored and not given clomid again. I really think if you see your OB/GYN for fertility- to know your stuff. i wish i had known more back then. i remember her doing an u/s during a clomid cycle and talking about how many follicles i had. i didn't even know what a follicle was. lol

First, thank you for all the welcomes!

I'm glad you said that Denae. That is actually something I am struggling with. I think I'd like to get a second opinion. I'm kind of a wimp when it comes to going to the doctor--for anything. I think it comes from my mother being a nurse. I had to be missing a limb or not breathing to see a doctor when I was a kid;) The doctor I have seen so far is strictly low risk OBGYN. He did tell me if the Provera/Clomid treatment didn't work, he'd refer me to someone else after a few months. Should I just ask him to refer me now? This is all new territory for me...I have huge respect for all of you going through this.

ETA...I just saw Carla's comments, I should have kept reading before responding, lol! I'm so overwhelmed. I don't even know the answers to your questions about the testing. I have gone to the OBGYN twice now--once, he was called away to L&D so the nurse talked with another doctor to do the order for the lab. I went back a week later to meet with the doctor. I actually had to ask him "how were my tests?" because he didn't bring it up. I know that I'm not feeling 100% comfortable with everything but I couldn't put words to why. I think I'll be calling their office tomorrow and asking more questions.

Gurgi--:grouphug: I feel that way a lot too. My only sister is pregnant right now. I'm so happy for her but it is hard for me to get too involved.

I know that I'm not feeling 100% comfortable with everything but I couldn't put words to why.

I think you have answered your question right there. You said you have been trying for a year, right? And your doctor got called to a L&D during your appointment? I would definitely be asking for a a referral to a RE. You need an expert who will be completely focused on your problem, and who will have the expertise to diagnose and treat whatever comes up.

Your OB might be trying to do you a favor for insurance purposes, though, if your insurance doesn't cover RE visits. Mine covered diagnosis, but not treatment, but even when I was doing Clomid with u/s monitoring, the RE was able to claim the u/s was diagnosis - I only had to pay for the meds.

If you are not able to see a RE right away for one reason or another, educate yourself the best way you can and ask as many questions as you can think of. (This is true with a RE, too). Insist they get the answers if they don't have them, and don't accept wishy-washy responses. You want to have a good rapport with your doctor, but you don't want to be pushed aside or un-informed, either.

Carla - I am keeping my fingers crossed for you. Sounds like baby Katharine will be making her entrance sooner rather than later. Lots and lots of luck to you for an easy and complication-free delivery, and healthy mommy and baby. Update when you can. (I really still cannot believe you are having a baby!)

Denae

Hi Rachie! So glad you decided to join us!! :goodvibes I'll give you a quick background on me so you don't have to go all the way back. I'm 28 and have an almost 4 year old DS. DS was a wonderful surprise, so TTC has been a new experience for us. I stopped BCP in June 06. Really started trying in the fall of 06. Had a chemical pregnancy in April 07. And AF just arrived this past Saturday for this cycle. :( I seem to be surrounded by pregnant ladies everywhere I go, and often whine about that on here! ;)

Carla...Oh wow!! How exciting for you!! I can't wait to get that final update that your little girl has arrived. :) :) After all you've been through, and still going through, I sure hope you have a easy going, laid back baby!

Oh Gurgi, I'm so, so sorry. I unfortunately know how you feel. It is so very, very hard.

Aurora...Good luck with testing!

Almost forgot. Check out my sig...see that sunflower...I grew it from a seed!! I'm SO excited! DH gave me a bunch of seed packets for mother's day 06 because we were moving into our first house later that month. Well, I've tried various seeds and usually just end up with a pot of dirt, sometimes I get weeds. The sunflowers are my first success at growing something from a seed! I have another one partially bloomed, and many more coming. :) :) I'll update my sig as I get more because I'm extremely proud!

Gurgi  I totally know how you feel. In my church choir we haven't had babies for literally 3 or more years. Even then it was one and the next oldest up from him is 6 years old. So I am not used to seeing pregnant ladies in my group. Within ONE mass that I sing at, there are three of my friends who are pregnant. It was rough. Well except for one... Rene had a miscarriage in early fall and my heart broke for her after that. But the others popped up and it is hard to see that many so close to you.

Rachie, I don't blame you for wanting to get a 2nd opinion. Your doc leaving during L&D wouldn't bother me, but the lack of communication after the fact would bug the heck out of me. A friend of mine is still on the verge of going to a new doc after TTC for 1.5 years now. She had to push for the tests too!

Allison that sunflower is absolutely amazing!!! Please update that sig as often as you can and be sure to point it out. I don't always look at sigs

Carla  Hang in there... you are nearly in the home stretch of this all now. I hope the next few days go well for you

Rachie: Welcome to the group!!!! I sounds like you should see a different Dr.

Carla: Can't wait to see a post saying you had your little girl. Have a safe delivery!!!

Gurgi:   I'm sorry. It will be your turn soon!!! :goodvibes

Allison: what a beautiful sunflower!!! Please post more pics when you can :goodvibes

Well I start Clomid tonight...lets hope this is the last time!!!!

Rachie - welcome to the group! I have two DS 8 and 5. We have been trying for just over three years for number 3. I tried Clomid last month but ended up in the hospital with some weird side effects. I am taking the month off and then will try metformin in July.

Skuttle - Cool sunflower! I can't grow anything and have almost no plants in my house.

Carla - We can't wait to see pics of your beautiful baby.

DisneyDreamer8 - We really need some BFP so maybe you can start us off.

Gurgi - :grouphug: I hate seeing all the pregnant women. It is so hard and drives me crazy!

Aurora - Good luck with your test.

Have we heard from Tinkerchelle? She should be in the 2WW I think.
