I just joined weight watchers and want to lose 20 lbs before my trip in 8 weeks. However, I don't want to gain a bunch of weight back while enjoying the DDP. I can't count on walking it off as I'll be in a wheel chair but I can go swimming daily to get some exercise.

Here's my plan. Make sensible choices. Eat a salad for an appetizer. Eat fish, chicken, maybe steak for main course but avoid the carbs and save the carbs for dessert and just try not to eat the whole thing (I'm sure the kids will help with that).

What's your plan?

I've been on the low carb since last May and we did the free dining last year for 4 days and we're doing it again this August.

Last year I did the best I could be did cheat a little. I did have bagels in the am. I had creme brulee or cheesecake for dessert. I also couldn't resist the prezel bread sticks at Le Cellier.

So when I got home, I was so afraid to get near the scale but to my surprise, I lost 3 lbs!!! :cool1:

So my plan is to try and do my best but I am on vacation so I will probably cheat again with the prezel bread sticks and the creme brulee but I'll just make up for it at other meals.

Good luck with your diet at WDW!!

Well, I am back on the Weight Watchers. I lost 30lbs initially, but then we moved and I gained back 20 of it. So, I'm back on the wagon. I am now 5 lbs away from losing the 20 I put back on. Then I have, well way more to go. Fortunately, I do get to count the walking. Since we are going in Aug, I will be drinking tons of water. The heat tends to help with the overeating too. I don't know how long that you are going to be there, but I have found that when I fall off the Weight Watchers wagon for a week or two, the weight tends to come off really quickly when I get back home. I wouldn't stress about it too much. Try to make good eating choices but don't beat yourself up if you want to splurge a big. It is vacation. Just make sure that you start back with a fury when you get back home.

Fish is good as is boneless chicken breast. Be careful with the salad dressings and croutons (there's a lot of calories there)

Steak is problematic, but once per vacation shouldn't ruin your diet.

Portion control is key. If you eat a 14 oz porterhouse, your diet is out the window (no matter how much swimming you do).

Also pay attention to the cooking methods. Nothing "crispy" because that's deep fried. Grilled is your best bet. Get any sauce on the side so you can control how much (if any) to put on.

I just lost 12 lbs (I have another 18 to go). My DH has lost over 40 and still has 30 to go. I will not let Free Dining mess up my progress. I will do as I suggested above, and, while I will taste the deserts (I can't resist creme brulee), I will make sure my kids eat most of them.

Good Luck.

This may sound counter-intuitive but be careful sharing, particularly with CS meals. The only way you'll have enough food for 2 is if you eat all the "bad" stuff--fries and breakfast potatoes. Most places will let you substitute carrot sticks for fries. You should consider eating the burger and skipping the bun but again that may not give you enough to share.

The plan works even if you skip dessert or get a dessert that be packed to go for your kids to eat later as snack. Don't think you have to eat a piece of cake just because it's included.

Punkin gave you some good suggestions in the previous post.

DW and I are dieting together--I've lost 45 pounds in 13 weeks, she's lost 12 (but has a lot less to lose). Our plan (such as it is):

--Eat what we want--we're going to be on vacation and just want to enjoy ourselves.

--Pay attention to how full we are and stop at that point.

--Make use of the CSR fitness center at least 3 times during the week we'll be there.

We figure those things (plus the walking we'll be doing in that lovely August weather  ) will keep us from getting too out of control.

I have lost about 90 pounds over the past two years and am treading water nowadays. I have managed to peel off an additional 10 pounds so far this year and do not want to come home with a gain that would mean I would not have time to get it back off before the end of the year. It gets harder and harder to lose weight after awhile. :sunny:

I plan to order whatever looks good, eat a bit and give the rest to my husband and since we are going to be there for an extended time I am going to do something I have never felt the need to do before, walk more than I need to.

I have never gained weight at DW before and hope to continue the tradition. Good luck to you all as well.

I complelty agree with you about how it gets harder once you have lost a bunch! I've lost 80 lbs in the last 8 months, and I'm finding it hard now to get those last 10 off!!
I'm actually very excited about eating things during our December trip, that we normally wouldn't at home. I think I have memorized every menu available! My Hubby thinks I've gone nutso!! So I'm going to eat what I want, but not stuff myself! I'm planning on just tasting most things. It may end up that I will be wasting some food, but the health of body is more important than worrying about waste IMHO. As I'm eating I'm going to be telling myself, don't stuff yourself or you will feel miserable after, and who wants to feel that way at WDW?!!

Me too I lost 80 and have 10 pounds left and man is it hard! But I am doing my best. I think I will eat what I want on our vacation late next month I will try and make sensible choices BUT Im going to eat what I want and try to always keep moving..lol Thats what I do now, I park at the back and walk, take the stairs have lots and lots of water, try to get on the treadmill atleast 3 times a week if not more. Im strict on myself during the week and give myself a little more room on the weekends. I try to eat constantly to keep from getting hungry and then making wrong choices out of hunger and conveince.

wear a pedometer - that might help fight off some of the guilt from go off plan

decbysteph, if only the pounds I lost would just stay off so that I could concentrate on losing the rest of what I need to lose but, for me, it does not work that way. Up five down six. Guess it is better than the reverse but still so frustrating and it is a whole lot harder when you are no longer a Spring Chicken. :rotfl: I had to laugh at how food obsessed you are. I am too. I have saved so many food pictures to my computer and spend hours figuring out where we are going to eat and what we are going to eat. For some odd reason it is not making me want to eat more though. Congratulations on your weight loss! You will get the rest off in due time. It is a journey not just a destination. :sunny:

bluejasmine, you have summed up in one paragraph what took me nearly fifty years to learn. You are right in that it is hard but then most worthwhile things are. Congratulations to you as well!! :cheer2:

I think the key is to remember that this is a vacation and you should enjoy yourself!

But there are ways of doing it so that you CAN stay on track with your diet.

When everyone else is having a Mickey bar? Have a diet soda, and steal one of Mickey's ears from an unsuspecting family member. A couple of hundred calories saved, and the carbonated drink will make you feel full.

Instead of having a burger, fries and soda, have a burger. I know it's still a burger, but have it without CHEESE and without MAYO (mayo is one of the most calorific, fattening things in the world - it's basically solid oil at around 75% fat!). Fill the burger up with plenty of salad from the topping bar. You really won't miss the fries!

Stick to diet soda or water. By drinking a diet coke instead of a regular coke, you save yourself 250 calories. At 4 bottles a day, you've saved yourself 1,000 calories or enough for a FANTASTIC evening dinner.

Be careful with salads and sandwiches. Often you THINK they're the healthy option but if they contain mayonaise, or an oil-based dressing, the calories and fat content goes through the roof.

Remember as well that things like pizza may SEEM calorific and fattening but pizza usually has a fairly high bread-content because of the base, which is low fat. Stick to the veggie version and you'll have a RELATIVELY healthy CS meal.

Most importantly: enjoy everything you eat. If you feel guilty about eating things which aren't part of your diet, you'll "give up for the day" and eat whatever you want because the day is already "ruined". Accept before hand that you are NOT going to be able to stick to your diet the way you can at home, but enjoy the "treats" you have and have them in moderation. You will not put on 5lb because you had a Mickey bar - but you may if you "give in" to every snack option you see!

Here's how I actually lost weight on the DDP last week.

I drank lots of water all day long. With meals, I had either water or unsweetened iced tea.

At every single TS meal, I only ate half of it. When I get the plate, I just remove half of the entree from the part I'm eating and stop when I've finished half. My appetizers were also salads, and I would eat about half of the salad too. I did the same thing with dessert.

For the CS desserts, I didn't eat them, and where I could (several places), I got fruit instead of cake or brownies or whatever else fattening was available.

I never felt deprived, by the way, and I did eat some fabulous food. It's not hard to do at all if you're aware of what you eat.

I too am on WW (Weight Watchers) and went to WDW in Feb 06 and missed a week of weigh ins a lost .6lbs that next week :cool1: . I did nothing special but kept in the back of my mind that I would have to loose any weight that I gained while there and I think just knowing that totally kept me on track. I only drank water for lunch and dinner every day. (Breakfast I had milk). But I think everyone's advise is correct you can do it just keep it in the back of your mind. Good Luck

Maybe just give yourself a couple of meals off the WW plan. Pick a couple of TS you really want to eat at and for those meals don't worry about it. Just be careful w/ everything else.
