Ahhhhhhhh!!! Dream COMING TRUE as we speak. My deposit is officially down. I have had so many damn ups and downs this past 3 years...This trip is sort of everything to me as I have been planning it since 2011 and then life happened...unfortunately I've been recoupping from leaving my husband. me and my son have kept the Disney dream alive from then until now...even though it was barely in sight any longer and we had changed from WDW to a cruise since he's only going to be 6 and there is just one adult ..I figure WDW is a waste of money if you can't go on half the rides.... Especially coming from mid-Canada (Winnipeg!!)
Anyway...FINALLY saved the deposit and now I'm both excited and terrified at the prospect of pulling off this vacation once school ends....always can cancel I keep telling myself, but I need the motivation to really push for it!
Does ANYONE who has done their research have an opinion on who has the best and cheapest travel insurance for Canadians that are good for the health and westher related issues that may arise? I have thus far denied Disney trip insurance....I have researched all my prices and stuff well but not insurance.
Thanks for reading!!!
NOVEMBER 28 2016 here I come Bahamas!!!!

Alas I know nothing about insurance products available for Canadians.

we had changed from WDW to a cruise since he's only going to be 6 and there is just one adult ..I figure WDW is a waste of money if you can't go on half the rides..

My 6 year old could, by height, go on pretty much everything at wdw. And if there were things he missed it was nowhere near half! Don't count wdw out for a 6 year old.

I know it's weird to think about now. I just booked a cruise for December 2016 and my still 10 year old will be 12. So strange to think about! But kids do tend to keep growing. :)

We pulled the trigger again for a November cruise next year after one last year. One off-trips PC Financial is reasonable and Desjardines for their annual plan - we always take just the health insurance. We've driven through extreme weather to make a sailing and the ships will try and avoid the worst of a storm if one hits while away.

Trip cancellation we've never bought for weather reasons as I've found if one concentrates too much on the predicted weather, the overpowering desire to pick the perfect time will have us never cruise as there will always been weather considerations. I don't know about NOAA but our local weatherperson has less than a 50% chance of predicting right the weather 48 hours out. Choosing 18 months out, I'd rather not pay insurance to bank the option to cancel. Worst case and if 2016 turns out to be a terrible or record setting storm season, one can always cancel without penalty before the PIF date (if not booked concierge) but after 15 months of anticipation, even that would be hard for us to do.

We are also going again in November 2016! So exciting.

We are from Ontario and we have purchased insurance in the past through CAA and Amex. Just be sure to get a couple of quotes and you should be ok, as prices can vary by quite a bit.

yay!!!! That's great, hope you have a great time :)

We always use CAA trip insurance. We both have extended health insurance from work that covers us on vacation so we only need cancellation and trip interruption insurance. In 2010 when we were going on the Med cruise, my mother was in poor health and there had been a volcano eruption from Iceland earlier in the year which had prevented a lot of people from travelling so we knew that we needed insurance. We bought it to cover the cruise (flights were booked on points). As it turned out, nothing adverse happened but we made sure that we would have been covered either due to having to make alternate arrangements to get to Barcelona because of the volcano and to get home if my mother passed away while we were there. Both would have been covered. We bought again this time to cover us for our Northern European cruise including the cruise, flights, and hotel - both for having to come home due to either our own health issues, family health issues, or other reasons.

My dad purchase the same two years ago when he cruised to South America (not Disney) in February. He was supposed to fly out of Buffalo and the day he was supposed to fly out, there was a massive snow storm. He ended up missing the first night of his hotel stay in Santiago and got compensated for that.

make sure your credit card doesn't offer trip insurance. with some they offer full coverage if you pay at least part of the trip with it. it would be something I would check into before looking else where. my BMO mastercard has that option. not sure about P.C.
sadly, November 2016 will be our first experience not booking on dcl, we are trying rcl. wish me luck!
And you have a great trip, don't worry about anything else, it all comes together. :flower1:

Another Canadian here! We booked for Sept 2016, the latest European cruise I could get. Hopefully we'll be able to go (some uncertainty with timing, would have preferred something in Oct!)

Yeah I'm thinking exactly that, I've checked with my visa and I don't but I have a feeling my lc points MasterCard does have or can have travel insurance
