Any opinions on the new Kodak v570 or v610?

I currently have a 4MP Kodak EasyShare, and I'm looking to upgrade. DH really likes the v570 and v610 because they are new. Walmart online has the best price on these cameras - many stores don't even have them yet, or they are at least $50 cheaper online. The v570 comes with a dock, the v610 does not.

I've been trying to figure out if they are worth the cost - what advantage does the dual lens provide?

FWIW - I absolutely love the EasyShare system and cameras - I don't think I would buy anything else. The color, especially, is fantastic. My WDW photos look way better than my friends who took nearly the same photos.

Thanks!

Have you tried any other brands? Kodak is known for ease of use, bad low-light performance, grainy pictures at higher ISO, long shutter lag, overly saturated (unnatural) colours and so on and so forth.

I have only used Kodak as far as digital goes. I am very happy with it - love the color and zoom capability my current camera has. The lens shutter (I think that would be the term) even jammed once, and they fixed it for free.

Like I said, I'm really happy with my current camera, just thinking about upgrading.

If you don't like Kodak, what digital camera in the $300 range (at least 5MP) would you recommend?

Canon A620 (closer to $200) or Canon S2 IS (about $300). Way, way, way, way, way, better than Kodak.

Kelly - Does the Canon S2 IS modes work simliar to the Kodak modes (i.e. indoors, night, landscape, etc.)? I was checking this out on Canon's site. They don't do a great job of selling it. I noticed it was $325 at Walmart and $399 with $50 off at Circuit City. I just may have to check it out. Seems like it is a favorite on this board.

you can also look inot the Olympus Styus cameras. Easy to use and great pictures.

The Kodaks you mentioned are getting good reviews. I havve a friends who is a pretty involved hobby photographer and he just bought the v750 for his daughter. He's been using it over his Nikon D70 some and has been really pleased with the results.

No offence ment to Kelly, but I would take her opinions on Kodak with a grain of salt. She just really hates all things Kodak.

The S2IS is a board favorite. I however am not thrilled with mine. My outdoor shots are great. Indoor without flash are nearly always out of focus and with flash I tend to have a brightly illuminated subject and blacked out background. I have equally good outdoor shots and better indoor shots with my old Sony (another company Kelly dislikes) than with the S2IS.

I'll be upgrading to a DSLR soon and will likely go with Canon as I need better high ISO performance.

There are some good review sites like http://www.dpreview.com/ that are worth checking out.

none taken.

I just based my opinion on:

1. personal experiences (in terms of reliability)
2. my circle-of-friends experiences (also in terms of reliability)
3. comparison of the neutrality of colour rendition of Kodak vs Nikon vs Canon vs Olympus vs Fuji (taking a picture of several people, and print the picture as-is without colour correction, and compare them with the actual person's skintone and clothing colour)
4. comparison of digital grain between various camera models
5. looking at how conviently Kodak claims to have ISO 800 but only taking it at 1.3 MP

I think they are pretty objective because all the points 1-5 are not about taste/personal view of the camera and their image quality, but based on things that are tangible. For example, if the original skintone is pink and the picture turned out reddish, it's not the mattter whether you like the picture or not, even if you like it, it's still inaccurate and unnatural.

Yes, they do everything that Kodak can do (doesn't all camera? :teeth: ). Kodak is never the innovator they were once before. They are now the manufacturer of me-too products.

For better specifications, go to http://www.Canon.ca then go to consumer products then camera then choose your camera.
