Any opinions on Bahia Resort in San Diego?

It looks like the San Diego area would be great vacation match for us next June. One resort which comes up on searches for Family friendly resorts is the Bahia Resort. I realize it is a older resort but it looks like it is a central location and the reviews are not all bad, pretty decent. The area looks fun. Any opinions?

Ive never stayed there but it has a nice feature. You can walk to the "boardwalk" at Belmont Park and there is mission bay park right across the street. I'm sure you might want to try the historical wooden coaster.

I stayed at the Bahia Resort six years ago with my family. We stayed in a one-bedroom suite. The room was large with a kitchenette. The grounds of the hotel were gorgeous, but the rooms were dated and worn. There is a beach right at the hotel, but it is the bay, so no tides. There was a very steep drop-off, so I had to really watch my little ones. If they took more than two steps into the water, the water would be over their heads.

It is very close to SeaWorld. At night, we could watch SeaWorld's fireworks from our balcony. There is a sternwheeler boat that cruises the bay between Bahia Bay and it's sister resort, the Catamaran. It is free to those staying at either resort.

I've been to San Diego about a dozen times. I've never returned to the Bahia Resort. For the money, I think I can stay somewhere else much nicer. And I've had really nice visits staying places much cheaper.

Hi there Magalex (or whoever else wants to reply) did you ever decide that you were staying at the Bahia then? I'm having the same dilemma, wanting to get a place that's centrally located, relaxing, family friendly, etc. We have two teens, so that's why I was considering the Catamaran, I've read that they have watersport equipment, etc. I know it's old fashioned looking, but as long as it's clean, that is most important to us. This is for you, Desert Dwellers, you said you would have stayed at nicer places, can you share details? We don't normally drive on our own, we are flying from Alaska, and actually considering taking the train from Anaheim, which is where we are flying into, because we'll be heading to Disney afterwards. Thanks for your help!

We have decided not to visit San Diego this summer. For summer 2012 we are thinking about staying at Anaheim for our first visit to DL & other local attractions. Good luck finding a great San Diego resort for your family. Please report back after your trip to tell us how it went.

Thanks for your reply. Actually, by waiting until 2012, you will get to experience the new Cars Land that will be done then in DL! We have stayed in quite a few places in SD in the past, such as the Paradise Point resort, but when we stayed there (about 10 years ago) they were refurbing it, it wasn't in it's best form at that time. It was a neat experience though, and they upgraded us to a "beachfront" room, which was nice! We are considering staying at the Doubletree Mission Valley, it's not necessarily a beautiful area, but it's conveniently located next to a trolley that takes you all over, a mall, and it has an indoor and outdoor pool. I am also considering the Dana, which has great reviews on Trip Advisor, and looks very inviting!
