I promise I wont let this get too graphic but here goes

A few weeks ago I noticed that my large toenail was looking rather yuckie-so I went to the dr after trying a few home ideas first since I figured it was a nail fungus
and I was right so the dr put me on a pill and also a cream--the pill I had to take for 3 months while the cream was for a year
which sounded pretty drastic but I do know this is hard to get rid of
so my hubby picks the the RXs for me and Im reading over the side effects

I just wasnt comfortable taking them then and espeically for 3 months and the things you shouldnt eat or drink
the main that worried me was liver issues and lose of taste and smell (I was lucky with covid and had it twice but never lost smell or taste)
so I called the dr and he said theres not any other pill for the fungus and if I didnt feel comfortable just to keep up with the cream
so this is the only pill out there for this issue sort of hard to believe when theres so many meds on the market

I asked how I even got this and he said its hereidty- I figured I could have inheirenent from my mom since both of us were always barefoot---I always thought you could pick it up from locker rooms pools hot tubs places like that
so this also seemed strange
I guess with all this rambling Im looking for if anyone else went through this and what did you do to get rid of it
also does this even make sense what the dr is telling me

oh not only this but he also wanted me to get one of those UV light things for my shoes to kill anything didnt hear of this either

I had the 11 month cream treatment. Luckily it worked.
Now that I know more about toe fungus, I will call the dermatologist if I ever see a sign of it again.
People, IT WILL NEVER JUST GO AWAY!!

Well, I have the same issue and went to the Doctor and he mentioned the treatments you were offered. He did not offer them because he feels the side effects are worse than the benefit. So I will just live with the discolored toe nail as it is only a cosmetic issue.

My doctor told me to apply Vicks VapoRub to the nails. It seems to be working.

Did you go to a regular doctor or a podiatrist?

When I had a similar issue my podiatrist gave me a treatment that was in a bottle and went on like nail polish. I don’t have it anymore - I wish I did so I could tell you what it was. I bought it from him in his office.

Sending lots of PD for it to get better soon for you :wizard:

Same here, podiatrist was very adamant about not wanted to prescribe treatment other than a polish because of the side effects.

My podiatrist prescribed Ciclopirox topical solution nail lacquer 8%. I can never remember to use it tho...

First Podiatrist I saw diagnosed my one, wonky nail as fungus.
Didn't explain anything to me, gave me Rx for nail polish.
I tried it and the only thing it did was turn my nail grey.

Saw second Podiatrist and he told me it is the flora in my body,
there's nothing I did to cause it.
Told me to throw away the polish and said he could give me oral Rx
for it but it would only return.
He said basically it's here to stay.
So, I threw out the polish.

I had it on one toe for years. I spent a lot of time this past summer in the sea off Thailand and it has gone away!

I did see a podiatrist for this. I tried the Vicks but Thst didn’t work. Still I didn’t use it for too long. The cream he prescribed starts wit a K. And ends in zole
Interesting how some dr push the pills and others go for something that goes right on the nail.
I’ll keep up with the cream. Maybe that will work.
Dr said to use the cream for 6 months and let him know how it’s going he also suggested doing the laser but that’s out to pocket
