I've got a question for anyone stationed at Fort Carson my little brother is moving on base from his apartment off base his wife is 6 months pregnant and most of his friends are deployed. Can anyone help? Moving like the dressers, bed, etc..
Thanks
Jill

You might have your brother contact one of the on-post family assistance groups, or the chaplain service-- or even the Boy Scout Council (I'll bet Fort Carson has their own council-- some of the larger posts do.)

I'm sure there would be plenty of help, he just needs to let someone know.

Once, at another installation, my dil was scheduled to move from one base housing unit to another while my son was deployed. The morning of the day that she was to start moving, twenty or thirty people from the base-- people that she didn't even know-- showed up, knocked on her door, and announced that they'd heard she was moving, and they'd come to help. They had her moved, with all the furniture in place, beds set up, etc., in a matter of hours. All she had to do was unpack and put away their personal belongings. It was not only a huge relief physically, but a touching memory of human kindness that we shall all carry with us forever.

To this day, we don't know who put out the word, or how it came together, but someone found out she was facing such a task essentially alone, with three children in tow, and help came to her door.

I'm confident that there would be similar assistance for your brother and his wife-- they just need to let someone know. In the military, there are a lot of good hearts and strong hands willing to help, but if they don't know, they can't step up.

Please let us know how it turns out...

He is moving from off post housing to living on post at Ft. Carson, right?

If this is right, then the army moves should move your SIL for free. She has to set up the move and be there for the packers and movers and then of course set up an exit apt with the current relator of the apt. She shouldn't have any problems moving using the army movers. I know someone that is at Ft. Carson and works there and going to direct her to this thread for more answers or phone numbers or whatever.

I hope you're right, Tina, as that would sure solve the problem, but will the Army pay for the move if he is already at his duty station- as in, it is not a PCS move? Also, you mention only the sil, but if I read the original post correctly, I don't think the brother is deployed, so he is there-- but the sil is pregnant, which, of course, limits her ability to take on such an arduous task.

Let me be the first to say I'm not an expert on the subject, but I didn't think the military picked up the tab, except when the move was due to orders.

Will be interested in seeing what your friend comes up with.. I sure hope it leads to some sort of help for this couple.

I only know that here at Campbell, the army movers will move you on post if you were on a waiting list for housing but had to move into off post housing during the interim time. They issue you new orders moving on post, which can be used to break a lease. Of course, I haven't had to deal with this issue in a while and Ft. Campbell army movers is having a hard time juggling all the PCS moves.

That may very well be their much needed loophole, if Carson has that service-- and if they took the apartment while they waited for housing. I sure hope so. That would be ideal.

Seems they would have advised him of that though, if that is the case. Navigating a PCS can be daunting, though, so maybe he didn't 'get the memo' somehow. Maybe he should check again-- can't hurt to ask.

We did a do-it-yourself move while I was pregnant with my first child, and though we had help, it really wasn't the time I'd have chosen to take on a relocation. But, in the end, we all survived it. I just hate to think of a couple trying to do it without the help they need, and I feel certain there are people who would help them, one way or another.

It sure is easier if you have movers, either paid or volunteer, who can get it done in a day, and have the basics in place in time to get a good night's sleep.

You'll surely be the 'hero of the day' if this option pans out for them... I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.

If they are on the waiting list for housing JIPSO should take care of getting them moved on base-if not-there should be a couple of guys in his unit to help out-unless hes just to proud to ask. If hes rear d-there are still soldiers from his unit on post-but if he cant get help anyother way send me a pm-ill see what i can scare up-i know more than a few guys.

If my husband wasn't deployed I'd certainly volunteer his services, but on that note, it seems that if he's been here 6 months that he'd have some friends that could help them, after all what are your fellow soldiers if not your brothers, it seems like he could ask them for help :confused3 I know when we bought our house my husband and his soldiers moved everything while I worked that day, it was super :)
