Any off-site hotel advice?

In the next few days I'll be working on Expedia and Travelocity to see what kind of deals I can find for flights and hotels for the first week of August. I would love to stay very close to WDW but a Disney hotel isn't strictly necessary. There will me, DH and DS (9).

We are also going to San Diego for a few night. I suppose that the Hotel del Coronado is out of the question? :D

We are going to Anaheim next week and plan to spend three nights in the Disneyland area and then go to San Diego for nights. I allowed myself "one splurge" and decided to splurge on a truly classic hotel rather than a hotel that is new and "looks" like a classic hotel, thus we chose the Hotel Del for two nights, rather than splurge on Disney's Grand Californian. I found a great pre paid rate at
the San Diego Marriott Resort and Marina, and I am happy with the Embassy Suites ressie in Anaheim.

Wow! Thanks for these hotel names. I'll be sure and check them out. :D

www.getawaytoday.org We used them in Oct. anf they are great! Prices are super! We stayed at the Westcoast anaheim.....loved it! We had a balcony in the 12th floor with a view of DL/DCA!!!Spectacular!

at the Desert Inn and Suites which is RIGHT across the street from the entrance to Disneyland. YOu walk up to the light (1 building away) across the street and then you are right where the trams let people from the parking lot off at. A short walk to the entrance and voila you are there. We have found that we are actually closer at this hotel than driving to DL because you usually have to walk quite a ways to get to the tram. We love this hotel (nothing spectacular but all we do is sleep there) and it is reasonably priced! They have a continental breakfast every morning (doughnuts, toast, coffee, milk, juice) and the pool while it isnt anything to speak of they do have one and it is inside with a hot tub as well. It is NOTHING spectacular but we are never there! If you are interested here is the website...

We have stayed here the last 6 trips to DL and plan to stay there again in Sept this year!

Although I haven't stayed there myself, I've heard great things about Desert Inn & Suites too. One of my favorites is the Howard Johnson, but it's a alittle further down the street. I've also stayed at Best Western park Place Inn, also right across the entrnace, but I think you'll find a better price at Desert Inn. Carousel Inn is also convenient and economical.

In San Diego, our favorite is Dana Inn & Marina. Not fancy, but in a convenient, safe area, and reasonably priced.

I just visited the Desert Inn website and I really like what I see. I think that I'm going to look into getting a smaller suite there (DH snores) now that we've finalized our dates. Thanks! :)

I booked the "Parlor Suite" for October and just received the Adventurecard from the Anaheim Visitors Center and the Desert Inn participates in the program. I called them a few minutes ago to ask if there was a reduced rate and they took 10.00 a night off the room. I'm pretty jazzed to get the suite for 69.00 a night (off season). :bounce: :D

Is the Candy Cane. Free breakfasts in the morning....it is awesome. This trip we are staying at the West Coast Anaheim. We got a package thru Disney Travel with our Disney Club discount and the 3rd night was free. If you go to their website they offer rooms for $75 a night on a disney package and kids under 12 eat free.

have fun

but we like to be directly across the street from DL and dont want to have to wait for a shuttle! LOL I heard they are wonderful though!

I cannot say enough about Candy Cane. If I need a sure bet and am unwilling to use priceline, that is where I go. It is a very simple property, outside of DLR hotels it is the easiest walk to the parks (no intersections). They have a very dependable bus service (their own, not a service). They also have a cereal/pastry type breakfast buffet. The pool is small, but nice.

GCH is quite special...definitely a nice splurge. We will be staying there again at Christmas.

Since DLR is usually a "last minute whim" of a trip for us, we usually go Priceline (3 star) and get a convention area hotel for $30-$40 dollars. You usually don't get the great prices until the last minute, though.
