My 180 day window to make ADRs falls while I will be out of the country. I am currently planning to wait until I get home to make ADRs, which will be about 172 days out.

Are any of these meals such hot tickets that I MUST get them right at 180 (plus 10) if we are there the middle of October?

Crystal Palace lunch
Garden Grill dinner
50s Prime Time lunch
Chef Mickey breakfast
Plaza dinner
Ohana breakfast

The only ones I think might be hard to get are the Chef Mickey or Ohana breakfast. Can I wait until a week after they're available to book?

I will be visiting family in Beijing and will have Internet and our laptop but I'd prefer not to deal with it while there (DH already thinks I overplan) and you never know what the gov't might decide to block on a whim. Oddly enough, it would be a much better time of day (6 p.m.) than if I were at home (3 a.m.)

How many people will be dinning? I had 6 one year and at 180 days some ADR's were hard to get.

Yes, especially Chef Mickey's, will need to be booked 180 Days for the best times and being seated together. This is based on my trip with 6 people. Get a friend to book it for you.

Chef Mickey's and Ohana. Those 2 are hot adrs and even 8 days after your 180 you may not get it.

There is always a chance, but your chances lessen as the days tick by.

Good luck, hope you get them all!!

It's not that I CAN'T make them at 180 days, it's whether it'd worth the hassle of dragging the info to China and back.

I'm very torn. I am still not sure if we want do Chef Mickey after the so-so reviews, but if it's one you HAVE to book at 180 days, I almost have to reserve now if I want any chance at it. Kind of backwards ... I really like the Ohana breakfast better but I'm not sure we'll do both. Agggh ... I wish I could reconcile my OCD overplanner with the difficulty of not knowing some information -- like whether there will be free dining.

I would do all m yADR at 180 days and worse comes, you can always cancel and rebook something else later.

I just did my ADRs yesterday at 180 days out.I was online at exactly 0600 and I still had a difficult time getting Chef Mickey's for dinner. But did end up managing getting a 6:55 pm ADR.

Ohana's and Crystal Palace too should be done 180 days out if you want to get a normal eating time.

Good Luck!

great suggestion of having a friend do it for you, if only for the two that you fear my be gone by the time you return. i feel that's fair in this circumstance--i mean, you're on the other side of the earth!

have a great trip to china. i'm super jealous!!!

Other than the Plaza, those are all popular places. If you want to eat at any of them, book as soon as possible. Also, Garden Grill only has dinner seatings now and it's a very small restaurant, so they are almost always booked up at the 180 day mark.

I did want to mention, if the concern is having to tote the res# back, WDW will email copies of the res to you at the email address of your choice. This is what I have done, just saved the emails and then print them out when we were packing up to go. I would say that in most cases you are fine at 172 days if you are flexible about meal times, but it would be better to book at 180 if you can.

I think I will probably just take the stuff with me to China. For once, space is not an issue (gotta love international luggage rules -- 2 suitcases per person allowed!) and we're planning to take the laptop to Skype with the kids and download our cameras as we go. I can put most of it on the computer and carry minimal paper.

I just know DH is going to roll his eyes about me needing to pick restaurants 6 months out. I will just have to remind him;) about our last-minute trip a couple years ago -- low crowds in September but during FD -- and when we couldn't get a walkup anywhere in Epcot one night. Can't imagine trying that with 4 kids.

I'm also counting on some of the details firming up by then -- MNSSHP dates, park hours, new FD PINs:wizard:
