Any NYPD on this board? Tax return questions...

I'd like to complete our tax return today, if possible. DH is NYPD but does not have any of his 2004 pay stubs here-I need to know what his union dues were for the year. Does anyone know, or does it differ by person? Also, I am claiming his uniform costs, dry cleaning, etc. Does anyone know what a reasonable amount for 2004 is? I am also going to claim a laptop we bought for my job (I'm sure my boss will not reimburse). It was 900. DO you think that will raise a red flag? I'm truly using it only for work. My boss will not reimburse.

Hi I'm a tax pro for H&R Block. The amount of this union dues should be on his W-2. As for uniform costs etc-add up all your receipts. As for the laptop, talk to your tax pro. If it is exclusively for work you can depreciate it. Good luck to you.

Hi- my dh is NYPD sergeant - however, last year he was a po and we had our taxes done already. We always have them done by a woman on LI who specializes in NYPD. For union due, she has down for us $1104.00 . For uniform cost she has $1557.00. She also includes ammunition and range fees of $404.00. If your dh has taken any courses (sgt, liutenent, ect. ) I think you may be able to include those also. As for the lap top, I don't know. Hope this helps you!
