Any luck getting upgraded

Has anyone had any luck getting upgraded. We are going to BLT in april and staying in a studio. What started out as 2 people has now turned into 4 and the studio will work but will be kinda tight. There is currently no availablity for a 1 bedroom, has anyone had any luck or or know of anyone when checking in asking to see if you could be upgraded to a 1 bedroom? If so do they just take the difference in points?

There are very few stories here about being upgraded. Usually it happens if the room you booked is out of commission for some type of emergency. People have mentioned that they've upgraded at check in and the extra points were taken out of their account.

If you want a 1 bedroom, keep calling. Something may open up, so you know what you have!

I don't know about a free upgrade but when we were checking in last Nov their was a woman who was unhappy with her booked studio standard view and she was asking for an MK view- they were able to get an upgrade using their points when the front desk found availability.

DVC is meant to be book'd to over 90% capacity, as one of the other posters mentioned you don't usually get a "free" upgrade unless there are maintenance issues.

You can always ask if there's a 1-bedroom available. If they've got one, they'll charge you the difference in points.

You have a very good chance of having a waitlist for 1 bedroom coming through and that is the only way you can be guaranteed that you will definitely have a 1 bedroom for your upcoming trip. Unless it is an extreme situation that causes the studio you booked to be taken out of service, a 'free' upgrade is very rare. Also if for some reason there is an issue with the studio you reserved and it is taken out of service and therefore they find they have no choice but to relocate you into a larger villa because another studio unit is not available for you that doesn't necessarily mean you are guaranteed to be relocated within BLT; if they couldn't find availability at BLT then you will be moved over to another DVC resort.

If you want a larger unit, you should get on the waitlist now. People usually cancel around the 31 plus day mark to keep points from going into holding status and those on the waitlist will get those cancellations. I've had lots of luck with the waitlist. I've had very little luck with asking at checkin - done both for the same reason as you - the number of people increased. On one occasion I did get to change to a larger unit after 2 nights, but I paid for the extra point cost (it was definitely worth changing rooms!)

Thanks for your posts guys but i am not looking for a free upgrade i was just wondering if they would just charge me the point difference. I am going to put myself on the waitlist plus call at that 31 day mark, so here is hoping for a larger unit.

Keep calling until the day you leave...Waitlist ends 7 days out....I called each day, twice a day after the waitlist ended and was able to get what we wanted 4 days before we left...It was the second call of that day (around 3:00) that what we wanted became available...So get on the waitlist and call every day the week before.
