Hi,

I am a British Citizen living in Canada (and proud to be) and I have permanent residence status. I foubnd out today that I have to have additional forms filled out in order to travel - an ESTA form through the US that gives me permission to travel. Apparently you have to obtain this 72 hours before flying - I found out today and fly on Saturday.

I guess this came in to effect on Jan 12th - I had never heard of it - I had what I now consider a lucky conversation with a complete stranger today who told me about it.

Wonder if if anyone else has flown in these circumstances and did you have any problems that it wasn't registered 72 hours before???:confused3

I am a bit worried that the other 9 people in the group will be able to fly and I will not be allowed.

Thanks

Vickie

Have you tried calling US Border Control? Wish I could help--I am British Born but Dual Citizenship so I have a Canadian Passport..I would try and track down someone Stateside that might be able to add some info?

Good Luck!

I'm an Aussie, and have had permanent residence status in Canada for 10 years. I finally give in and applied for Canadian Citizenship, which I just received last week. So now I have dual.

Part of the reason I did was that we travel to the US a lot, and traveling on the non visa waiver was becoming more and more difficult.

Then in November last year my travel agent sent me an email regarding the new ESTA regulations and the link to the website. We are not from a land crossing and will often decide Saturday morning to meet American friends for lunch or go shopping. With the new ESTA I can't do that anymore, as we now have to plan all US visits 72 hours in advance.

I drove to Seattle on January 2nd, and the US border guard asked if I new of the upcoming change on January 12th. He said if I hadn't completed the online notification then I wouldn't be allowed to cross the border.

That's not very reassuring for you. I do hope that you have a friendly border protection agent and they let you go.
