Any killer Car rental deals for October yet????

I've never rented a car and need lots of help. I'm new to this thread, stay in the Cruise Line thread. However, I have screwed up plane tickets and everything else to get us on the boat and now I might have to rent a car from Port Canaveral to Tampa on 11/18 so we can get home. Budget is sold out, Hertz seems quite expensive for 1/2 day rental. Can someone tell me if they get a code or coupon or special for a oneway for November? Or any advice on renting a car as I've never done it
Thanks

mousesavers just posted new codes for alamo, national & thrifty this afternoon...check them out.

unfortunately, my existing rates are lower, probably due to Columbus day...grr.

I just got $143 for a weekly rental Halloween week with Dollar using KISS2 for an intermediate. The base rate was $108. I'll keep checking National for Emerald Aisle, but for now, I am happy with this.

Thanks! I'm on my way to check them out. Sorry they didn't work for you though!

I will check some of the rental companies for you, but one thing you might want to check is Priceline. I used it for a 1 day rental here in WI and got a rate of $25 ($35-ish total) for a full-size for a 24-hr period. Priceline doesn't do 1/2 day rentals...and I'm not sure if other companies do...I think even if you enter it as 1/2 day they charge you for a full 24hrs.

National picking up in Cocoa Beach and returning to Tampa airport is $42.19/total for an intermediate (a compact is only $1 cheaper). Avis also has cars available ranging from $36 for a subcompact to $70 for a convertible (these are just base prices). I don't know of any codes to bring these rates down...

These prices are pretty high...I would try the Priceline. You do have to pay for it immediately, and it is non-refunable...but worth it IMHO.

Hi everybody! I have been reading this thread and I too booked through Dollar with the KISS2 promo. Got a good rate, but when I read on someone's post on here about the corporate code oi1054 (Orlando Magicard), I was like "Cool Beans....I have the Magicard....I'll call and add the code to my ressie & get a free driver!!!! But when I called they said I can't!! :sad2: They said I could use one or the other but not both, and using just the other code (oi1054) brought my TOTAL to like $75 MORE :furious: so I told them to just keep the first one (KISS2) :furious:

Just noticed this post...

Kiss2, ocvb & ksad are Specials/Codes;

oi1054 is Corporate (goes in different box)

I was initially denied the corporate code when making ressie but, was able to modify it later on line to reflect it. BTW, didn't get a $ reduction but, a free driver which would cost $8/day.

good luck.

I can't see the one for National on Mousesavers... it shows updated on August 15 for me :(

Has anyone checked Hertz? Are they really high?

Mommyrn, same thing for me. I booked with both the ocvb (isnt htat right) code, which btw, is the same code as kiss2..go figure, but it LET me enter the corporate code but didnt reflect the extra driver infact the confirmation emailed to me specifically stated 8$ per person extra driver/day. I called, they said same thing. Kinda sneaky that they dont give you a pop up saying to many codes etc, it LOOKS like it lets you enter it, but in reality it gives you "the best code for the money"...so basically the kiss2 code saves you more than the free driver magicard discount.

sucks. i AM STUCK at 485 for 15 days in a minivan...but its still better than i'm even getting on that carrentals.com site. (485 includes tax) this is from airport, but i could rent 2 days later for 375 at the grovsner but that takes away from epcot day and will sure gives us all a headache!

glgl i leave in 30 hours!

that is a good site! I check that and www.flyertalk.com quite frequently.

I did get down to $188.06 last night, mid-size car with Alamo. It's a SWA Rapid Rewards ID number, and it gives me quadruple RR points (which I'm guessing is 2 for a round trip rental?) and if that's the case, between the flight and the rental this trip, I'll have earned enough RR points for a free flight :teeth:

I'm a little concerned about a mid-sized car and 5 people. I also don't know much about renting from Alamo. I need to research that... we LOVE the Emerald Aisle concept at National. With 3 kids, waiting in a car rental line isn't mich fun, LOL

Ouch! that will be tight. Where do you plan to put the luggage. A mid-size car (probably a neon) will not hold much luggage. Hopefully there is not a stroller involved. Hopefully there will be some other options so that you can move up to a bigger car.

alamo mid-size is pontiac g6, used to be grand-ams...

if you go EA, you can pick whats on the aisle.

help!!!!!

can't find SW's corporate ID...anyone know it off-hand?

I am traveling from Oct 6 to Oct 15. Right now I have a car rented from National from Oct 6 to Oct 9 using the Amex code and a coupon for one free weekend day for $60. When I try to rent for the whole time the best I can do is $242. I am renting from MCO and returning to the Dolphin. If I keep the weekend rental and start a new rental picking up at the Dolphin and returning to MCO from the 9 to the 15th it is about $153. So together that is $213. But I don't think it will be worth the hassle to save $30. What is messing everyone up is the holiday weekend.

do you know if you have to have an Amex CC "in hand" when handing in your paperwork @ MCO garage?

entertainment ids w/coupon are coming up in around $10 higher.

dollar from grovesnor is very low for a mid size 7 day rental, beginning Col. day ($121) ksad & corp. oi1054. Just not too appealling to haul ourselves over there to pick it up.

I also use a free day coupon from the 2006 Entertainment book.

I'll have to look for a G6 when I head out to Target, LOL.

Does the Quick Silver get you out of standing in line at MCO?

We have never been asked for our AmEx, and we've used that code twice in the last year.

I was doing the same thing - playing around with different date combinations, and decided it wasn't worth the hassle for $30.

thanx for the codes madge,

QS diverts you to the garage kiosk near the car for expedited check-in.

They did ask for my AAA card last June (1st time ever, which is why I wondered if they would for Amex...too late to get one now LOL).

they do have other cars on the aisle, same as national - whatever's there you can take, i've seen saturns & pt cruisers too.

even with a coupon?

Making sure I've got this right....

I sign up for Quick Silver, than make my reservation with Alamo. When picking up the car, I can bypass the line and go straight to the garage, pick out a car from the appropriate aisle and go the checkout kiosk.

or do I check in at the garage and then pick the car?

Sorry, not that easy (like National). You go to a kiosk/counter booth in the gargage BEFORE you pick up your car. Check in with the rep from Alamo at that counter booth first. Then you go to the Alamo section (If at the B side, it's to the left of the National side). Choose your car, then drive to the exit kiosk, hand in your paperwork (like you do with National) then leave. You have that one extra step of stopping in the booth first. We did this in April and we were the first one to the booth, but had 3 people behind us when we were done. I still choose National when the prices are not that much of a difference, but Alamo/QS is still the next best thing to going to the counter with another company. For our next trip (2 weeks away) we chose National over Dollar. We had a great rate at dollar for $313 full size for a 2 week rental, but just switched to National for $347 Exe.Aisle for a 2 week rental. Though National is $30 more, we feel it's worth it to bypass the counter at Dollar and know we are getting at least a full size car on the Executive Aisle with the possibility of a larger or better car (In August we had a premium car that was loaded). So we went with the higher price of $2 more a day. Of course, we will continue to watch for any further falling prices, but the low prices of past years just don't seem to be showing up this season.
