Any "introverted" families who have enjoyed Whispering Canyon Cafe???

I'm so undecided on WCC!!! We'll be staying at VWL, so we'll be right there. It sounds like it could be a lot of fun if we could observe more than participate. I just can't get a handle on how much you can enjoy your food and how much is more constant commotion. If it was DH and myself, we may have passed on it, but I think DS9--who's more extroverted than either of us--could get a huge kick from it. I'm hoping a happy medium could be achieved!

Any opinions?

The servers do it all. You don't have to do a thing if you don't want to. It isn't "constant commotion," more like funny eruptions. Some trips (and definately some servers!) are better than others.

If you feel like trying it, you should. It can be lots of fun, and the food is great, too!

The servers seem to sense if you are not really "into" the festivities. Also, some of them are real performers, while others are just ordinary servers. That being said, I was shocked that they had my DH who is normally very reserved doing the hokey pokey at lunch on our last trip!

It's probably worth trying Whispering Canyon for your DS' sake. If you do a search you will see that a lot of people love the place.

We went once based on the reviews on this board. I had 3 ds and hyped them up about it etc. Well our server was just that, a server, he made no jokes, had no fun etc. My ds were miserable. They did get up to join the group pony ride and my one ds got to hand out some certificates, I think this was because the other servers saw how miserable they were and how uninteractive our server was, to not be so negative he was a very prompt and efficient server but it stopped there. Our ds have begged us never to go there again. I think the "entertainment" was not what my dh enjoyed either, He generally says, I just want to eat. Gee, I guess he would not enjoy prime time either. I kind of liked the entertainment part as a whole watching the other people etc. Good luck deciding.

Have had two experiences with Whispering Canyon. One for lunch with my husband and a teenage son. Both NOT into interaction. We had fun but our server knew we just didn't want to participate.

Second time was husband with both sets of parents. Again, not into participation but my stepmother and I were up there doing the hokey pokey stuff while the rest looked on with bemused expressions. They also put crayons on the table and my dad was miffed because we didn't have kids with us. I mentioned that to the server and we were all given papers to color! Only my dad and I did and we were given certificates for doing that.

I didn't tell the parents about the antics and they were very pleased. I had told the husband and teenage son about things and while the meal was OK, they expected more. I'd say, make the reservation and just go with the flow without a lot of hype.

We're not real big on hijinks, and we've eaten there several times. We never had any over-the-top servers although they were personable. If you get a rowdy server, just tell them you're tired and will tip them well if they'll cut the funny stuff. :earsboy:

We love it. We're a pretty quiet family but we had a blast. My DD said it was her favorite birthday of all times.

We have been 3 times! Once for bkfst and twice for dinner. My dh and I find it loud! But my ds(8) loooooves it! :rotfl: The food is pretty good, but we prefer a quieter more relaxing dinner! :rotfl: Last vist my dh suggested we try AP next trip! ::yes::

I know this is kind of off-topic but I read a review and one of the servers, Heada Lettuce, is a member on this board and was a fabulous hostess!

We have an ADR for April but have never been to this restaurant. What is it that goes on here? I had no idea there was a show.

My family, who I thought was fun and would enjoy WCC, actually hated it. It was all I could do to get them to not walk out. :confused3 I don't know why because the servers weren't really picking on us too badly. Although DD10 did get the ketchup and then she had to pass out the certificates for the kids who did the horse race because she refused to participate in the horse race. But she was ok with it all. The other two (DD12 and DH) were the ones who hated it.

We enjoyed the food though. I had the roasted chicken and it was good. DH got the skillet. The portions were huge. DD12 and I shared the chicken.

I can totally relate to what you're saying. We were kinda worried too about eating there because my boys are quite shy, especially my 9yo and frankly, I wasn't too thrilled myself at the concept of riding a wooden horse around a crowded restaurant :rotfl2: So we didn't make a PS even though we were staying at Wilderness Lodge BUT once the boys caught a glimpse of it when we checked in they both wanted to try it. I told them about the antics and they were cautiously excited! So we got a PS (ADR) for July 4th and we had a great time. Our server was very nice, not the most outrageous server, but pleasant. Now I can't stress to you enough just how shy my 9yo is but he had heard about the ketchup thing and I couldn't believe he got the courage up to ask for it!! Well, I guess he also adores ketchup so there was that to consider ....... :teeth: Here he is, as you can see, delighted with himself!!

The server at the table next to us was sooooooo funny. At one point he came out of the kitchen with a giant dinasour hat on him. Sounds silly but it was very funny as he acted totally non-chalent and almost grumpy (pretend). At one stage, after a very quiet, reserved couple at that table asked for their dessert he shouts out "oh for pity sake, what is wrong with you people, you're sitting 5 feet from the kitchen and you can't get off your butts to get your own dessert. I don't know. I just give up". :rotfl: :rotfl2: He was hilarious. They were cracking up laughing.

We had a great night! Give it a go. :goodvibes
