I hope its okay to ask this here. My son is interested in becoming an Audio Engineer with an emphasis in live show and stage show production. Full Sail in Winter Park offers a degree in this area. Has anyone here ever attended Full Sail? Can anyone offer me any information good or bad about them?

Thank You

I've heard their programs are pretty good, but you should be aware that they are nationally accredited, not regionally. It sounds kind of backwards, but if he decided to go to a "traditional" college setting before completion at Full Sail, he might have difficulty transferring credits earned. Therefore, before enrolling him there, I'd want to make very sure its the right place, because it might be difficult to move.

Full Sail is a for-profit institution, which typically means you'll be paying more for tuition. Additionally, since it's a vocational school, the training will be very specialized opposed to a school with a liberal arts base. For these reasons, it'll be hard to transfer anything in and anything out.

Vocational schools are often good for working students, or non-traditional students that are returning to college. There are lots of well known vocational schools (University of Phoenix is the most famous), but generally speaking I advise students away from vocational schools due to costs and the missing liberal arts piece.

Our son seriously considered Full Sail for their animation and game design program. We have friends in Orlando (we are in the midwest) and they offered to let him live there for free while at Full Sail. Even so, it would have been very expensive for us as Full Sail offered so few scholarships.
He ended up choosing an Oklahoma school with the same program, but more traditional education (and better scholarships). If he had not gone there it would have been Full Sail. We did a lot of research and they seem to be a good program. I don't think they have campus dorms, but they help find apartments nearby.

One of our son's classmates studied sound engineering at a Nashville school. They both graduated in 2014 so while our son is in his second year of college, his classmate has already graduated from that program and is working. You might check Nashville as an option.

Good luck! :)

Funny I see this as a good thing.

Thank you for the information. Do you know the name of the school in Nashville?

It's the The Blackbird Academy in Nashville. I really know nothing about it, just that his friend went there. I think it's a 6 month program. And I decided to look up the boy (okay, young man) who graduated at the same time as my son. He is touring the country with an up-and-coming musician.
