I am hoping to make a trip to the world in 2014 with some friends, but they need to get saving. I was thinking a piggy bank might help them stop spending and start saving. Any cute/fun ideas for a piggy bank?

Are the friends 7 or 8 years old? If not, don't bother. If they're adults they're old enough to be responsible and sadly your idea won't be much help to them. I mean, have they really not saved money because they don't have a piggy bank?

My DD wanted my DH to put money on the side for a trip to disney .
She got a piggy bank and put a beach hat and sunglasses on it, then she made a sign and hung it around its neck. The sign said "Feed a starving piggy so children can go to Disney". She put it on his night stand and it worked. He put his loose change in each night and some folding green every now and then.

I took my DD and DS to Hawaii a number of years ago and it is unbelievable how much money we saved with change. We had a large jar and placed all our quarters, dimes and nickels in it. We collected hundreds of dollars simply by refusing to spend change. Even adults can benefit from a specific place to put change.

And in 2009 I went to WDW with my sister and each of us paid for our part of the trip exclusively by saving $1 bills. Something cost $1 and I have it in my wallet? Use a $5 instead and put the other $4 in my savings. Periodically I went to the bank and exchanged $1 bills for $50 and $100. I even came home with $400 for another trip!
