Stayed @ the poly hawaii building wonderful view of mk from balcony, great time. Heres the question had money taken from room, thought maybe lost it but 3 others in same building experienced money taken also (around same time of day) filed report w/ conc, mgr, and security. any of yall have experience with them. mgr said they are working on an "employee problem"

I would tell you want resolution or call and file a police report. Do you have notes of times, dates, who you spoke with? Are you still there? If so I would be speaking with a manager again ASAP. Once you leave FL and have no police report I think its hard to get things solved.

I find this especially upsetting because we will be staying at Hawaii in a little over 2 weeks!!
Please keep us updated as to what they are doing for you... and if the money was in the room safe

My family and I are staying in Hawaii Longhouse next month and my parents usually keep their extra travellers checks inside the safe, so after reading this I hope everything will be ok with them. Since the Poly has the safe where you open it with a 4 digit code that you choose did you accidently leave it open while you were gone, or is their a dishonest Cast Member who knew how to open them with an overide code?

While we were there in July my daughter had $100 taken. She is young and left the room for about an hour to join us at the pool. The money was left in her purse on the dresser. We called the concierge desk and they had security come. He took a report. Thats about it. We did get a letter when we got home saying sorry there is no evidence to blame anyone.
My son also lost his Oakley sunglasses, we felt sure he misplaced them. Once we got home he started to wonder if they were stolen as well. This has left a sour taste in our mouths. Our kids were upset we were staying there in the first place, they would rather stay at the CR. :confused3

the money was on the dresser by the tv, I was in the rest room, heard a knock on the door a female said turn down service at this time she was in the room, two days later my safe would not open, it shuts down after two wrong attempts, i told the mgr. she said they were aware and looking into a possible bed cast member, 3 others that week had money taken during the turn down time. safe seemed to be reliable did what it should just dont set code to 1234 or 4321 something simple

Stupid questions about the safes!! Are they big enough for a laptop?? I would cry if someone stole it and my best friend needs it in case she needs to do college homework. Thanks.

No in room safe is large enough for a laptop. You can either buy a special lock and attach it to an immovable piece of furniture, or take it to the front desk and they will hold it for you. Make sure you get a claim check, too.

The safes at SoG and the GF are large enough for laptops.

Yes they are, ours fits easily in to the safes at The Poly. :)

We stay in the Hawaii building 4-5 weeks per year and have never had a problem thankfully. I certainly wouldn't have worried about leaving a small amount of cash lying round while in the shower before reading this. We struggled to get mousekeeping to take their tip last time! Hope they can prove which mousekeeper is doing this and hope your claim is sorted quickly OP.

1) You can certainly write and file a claim with the county sheriff.
2) But, nothing will be accomplished.
3) WDW does not refund cash or lost item - in rooms or in parks.
4) This is a law enforcement matter, and one for your insurance company.
5) Reasons
. . . you are responsible for your own property
. . . there are safes in the rooms
. . . there are safe-deposit boxes for free use at the Front Desk
. . . people do claim a loss, when nothing was stolen
. . . people do claim a loss when they overspend or lose money elsewhere

NOTE: Certainly, there are dishonest people in this world. People-being-people, room service people can be dishonest. Without making any assumptions or assertions, one must always be on their guard against theft or loss. I have yet to hear of someone actually breaking into a room safe, as there is ONLY one key to the room safe, or the specific 4-digit combination that the guest inputs themselves.

OMG, well, there goes my good feeling about staying at the poly in two weeks. Thanks so much for the heads up. Looks like I have to keep an eye on everything now. I didn't do that before, but now I am fully paranoid.

Absolutely no need to be paranoid, so long as you bring along some common sense

  • use the security bolt on the door whenever you are in the room
  • don't leave money or other valuables lying out in sight
  • lock valuables in the in room safe; if your resort does not have a safe large enough for your laptop, use a cable lock, or worse case lock it inside your suitcase
  • do not leave valuables in your vehicle

It's simply common sense, but too often we read here about people who don't follow those steps. Most recently I recall someone who left $5,000 of merchandise, as well as their wallet and credit cards, in their vehicle overnight. The items were missing the following day.

Hopefully the OP will see some restitution, but as Rusty points out, that is doubtful as it is difficult to prove the loss, and hotels have limited liability.

Even the safe at SSR was big enough for my notebook!:thumbsup2

True indeed Bavaria, and very good advice. I wish it helped.:rotfl2:
I always try to avoid creating a tempting situation, but sometimes that is not enough. Having lived in Manhattan for a while, I had friends who would say, "You don't really own anything, you are just keeping it for the guy who is going to take it.";)

With any luck I will have nice pictures to post when we get back (if I still have my camera!.....I couldn't help myself, sorry). LOL.

If it makes any of you feel better about the Poly, I will tell you my scary story. We stayed in August of this year for our 10-year wedding anniversary. I was putting suntan lotion on my DS and so I took my wedding rings off and left them on the desk. I forgot to put them back on, but I didn't realize this until we were at MK for OVER an hour! A CM in TOmorrowland made a comment about my anniversary button and as I was thanking him for his well wishes, I looked down at my hand and there were no rings!!! :scared1:

I immediately called the front desk at the Poly and told them what happened and where I thought the rings were left in our room in Tahiti. Mind you, it's a bit of a walk from the GCH to Tahiti, and when we left for MK that morning, mousekeeping was already on the floor. The CM went into our room and it had already been cleaned, with my rings sitting exactly where I left them. What a disaster that would have been, to have lost my wedding rings on my wedding anniversary!:scared1:

I have to believe that our mousekeeper saw these rings. We did not have many things laying about the room as we tend to tidy up before we leave for the parks. In hindsight, I wish she had informed the front desk if she did, in fact, see them, but, boy, was I happy that they were still there!:woohoo:

Thanks for all the advice, Not really expecting to see any reimbursement, My main complaint with the manager is that they have an un honest person working there, and please get to the bottom of it. Im very thankful only a small portion of our funds were taken, Yes i totally let my guard down, for all who are going their soon, I relly enjoyed the poly, just be on the old toes:thumbsup2
