I picked up the movie "Up" tonight at Target since they had it on sale for $9. I'm thinking we will have our first Disney Night this weekend. Any ideas of what we can do to go along with the movie or maybe food to have? I've never seen the movie so I don't know what ideas to go along with it. I looked in the big Disney Night theme thread and I didn't see this movie mentioned. TIA

Fist thing that somes to mind is Grape Soda (in bottles if possible,) and chocolate bars.
And have tissues nearby.

I'll give it some thought but while I am thinking can I just tell you that is some of the best $9 you will have ever spent. That movie is so amazing! I have seen it so many times. I saw it with my kids at the theater one afternoon and made my DH take me to see it again that same night. I love it so much, it is my very favorite movie of all time!!!

Well, the bird in the movie eats chocolate bars, so you could have those for dessert. There is also a picnic scene. - I don't remember what they have, but you could do an indoor picnic while you watch the movie.

If you are doing decorations - balloons! They figure big in the film.

Also, the kid is some sort of adventure scout. If you're feeling creative, you could hide the movie before hand and have the kids follow a "trail" to find it - make paper animal tracks (there are dogs and a large bird in the film) or write out North/South/East/West type clues that lead from one to the next.

I have a 4 yr old nephew who loves this movie and after we (my sister, her husband, "Bubba" and I) watched it "Bubba" asked us where we wanted to have an adventure since Carl and his wife in the beginning want to go to Paradise Falls in South America. So we had him tell us where he wished to go one day and had him draw it out. Also sine the bird in the movie eats Russell's chocolate bar, maybe everyone can have a few mini Hershey chocolate bars(to not make the kids too hyper!)? Maybe make some badges like Russell has? Those are just off the top of my head and hopefully if they stink they might help you think of something better? Have fun and bring some tissue (if you're a crier like me you;ll need them!)

Wow thanks for all the quick responses and great ideas. I love the idea of doing an indoor picnic and having some balloons. I will have to pick up some mini candy bars too. I have to ask is the movie really sad? My youngest son
(6) gets very emotional during movies sometimes so I like to prepare him ahead and tell him if there will be a sad part of the movie. If it's sad does it end up happy in the end? It always helps him if I'm able to tell him it's okay in the end. Thanks

The beginning has some very sad parts, but some of it will go over a 6 year old's head. But yes, like all Disney movies, at the end you are crying a happy cry. It is so amazing, but there are parts that are heartbreaking.

Thanks for sharing, that may just be something we work on during this unsnowy week off of school. (All 3 kids love UP as much as I do!)

I loved this movie!! I had been warned it was sad, but didn't expect it to be as sad as it was. Expect to be very sad in the beginning (I almost shut it off my 6yr old niece & I were crying so much) but we suck it out & really enjoyed it:thumbsup2

You asked about sadness and what to expect. Giving you, or another, space to skip this post without reading, if you don't want to read it.

DH and I cried for about 10 solid minutes at the start. If you, or anyone you love and have empathy for, has had problems with having babies (or rather making babies), be WARNED, you will sob.

Then after that was done, DS wanted to run from the room because the main adult character gets really angry and acts out...DS just hated that moment.

There are poignant moments throughout. The dogs are really intense, and the owner of the dogs is just flat out evil, and scares ME (doesn't scare DS for some reason). But the end of his part of the story was still very shocking to me (even after I watched the special features where they discussed the options, I'm still shocked), but it's also very deserved.

And yes, it's alright at the end, but still poignant at the same time.

In Food Network magazine they ran an article about food inspired by different movies up for Oscars this year, and for up they "strung" jelly beans on bamboo skewers so they would look like balloons!

We are doing weekly movie days with a friend of ours who is going at the same time. We did UP a few weeks ago, here is my PTR with pictures of our movie day and some ideas:

What great ideas! I'm definitely planning an "Up" movie night for my DDs and their friends soon. Thanks for sharing! :)

Oh my. My son's school just a movie night with Up. They sat on the cold, hard gym floor--no food or drinks allowed to watch Up. No activities, no fun! This weekend they are doing Bolt. I think we'll skip it--we can watch it at home, curled up on a pile of cushions and blankets and have snacks! Now I feel inspired to look for some activities, too! Maybe I can make dog bone shaped cookies.
