Any idea why a cd-rom drive won't open?

Computer idiot here .

We seldom even use the cd-rom.

I used it this morning & it worked fine.

Tried to use it this afternoon, and it won't open. It sounds like it's trying to open, and the green light flashes a few times.

I restarted the computer.

I went to My Computer & right clicked on eject.

Is it broken?

First thing to check: There should be a small hole somewhere on the CDROM door - probably near the eject button. Untwist a paper clip and insert it into the hole. That should allow you to physically open the door by pulling on it.

Turn the computer off before doing this.

I tried a few times, but it didn't work - figure I'm not doing it right.

I had this trouble last week. None of the stuff people told me to do worked so I shut it down and re-started. It opened just fine then.

I have discs that I made on my previous PC that I can access just fine, but they won't eject. They only way I can get them to eject is to restart the PC. As soon as it begins to start up, I can press the button and they eject just fine. I have no idea why this is true, but it works this way every time. Other CDs I've bought, etc. eject just fine.

If it makes you feel any better, my CD burner is not being recognized. I burned a music CD awhile back. It worked fine. Ever since, I can't write anything to a CD.

It worked for DH - he said I wasn't pushing the paper clip in far enough.

It's working fine now.

There wasn't a disc in the drive when it got stuck.
