We are doing the mickey family 5k in Oct of 2010 and saw there is a finisher medallion I think it was called. Does anyone have any idea what it is going to look like?
Is it a medal or something different? Thanks

If the finishers medal is anything like their other 5ks, then it will be a rubbery/plastic medal. Nothing as nice as what you get for the bigger races.

IS this the first year they do this race? I am not sure what I read. We did the EE5k last year and the medal is really nice. It is really medal and opens up to a compass.
While I dont expect marathon quality, I do hope it is something worth displaying.

EE is not counted as a 5K. It's a main event, that is why it gets the nice bling.

Halloween 5K is attached to the W&D 1/2 so as a smaller race I would expect it to follow all other attached 5K's and be the standard rubber medal.
I wouldn't be surprised if the used the logo for this years MNSSHP and put the 5K and date over it.

Since the Halloween 5K is a family fun run and not a timed 5K you will be seeing a rubber medallion. Definitley not as good quality as the EEC or the ESPN 5K medals, but they are usually very cute. I heard a rumor that they were looking at a Mickey Mouse pumpkin medallion but at this point that is just a rumor. I am really hoping that what they did with the Royal Family 5K does not become a habit. They actually put an advertisement for the DVD release of the Princess and the Frog on the back of the medallion and then put the medallion on a lanyard that would cause the medal to be able to spin. We got in the habit of telling each other "Your Ad is showing."

There is a chance the medal (or rubber) will make an early appearance somewhere. Disney Endurance is often at the expo for other marathons and on occasion they have had some medals there before the event. The medal for doing the two fall races last year comes to mind.

At the very least they will most likely have an example of both the 5K and half medals at the expo the day before the event. Usually the people selling the plaques for the bibs, medals, and photos have one or two so they can show an example of the finished product.

Disney will be at the Boston expo, I'll see if they have it or will say what it is going to be.

The endurance website says "medallion" so it will be a rubber one.

OMG that is so funny. Do you happen to have a picture of that medallion. I would love to see it.

So the race is not timed then? I did not know that. I want to track my time so I will have to do it on my own then. Do they have a timer at all and trackers for the shoes or do they just skip that all together?

Syko, I would love to hear if they show anything in Boston. See if you can snap a picture if you have the chance lol Good luck with the race. I watch it every year. Hear the hills are tough. We are only 70 miles from there but keep away during race time. It is way to hectic.

Thanks everyone for the info.

They have a clock that starts with the first person, so if you want your own time you will need a watch to time yourself.

I was at the expo for the Salt Lake marathon earlier this evening. Disney was there, but the CM said they haven't released the medals/medallion for the Food and Wine events. He did indicate that the 5K event would have a rubber medallion, similar to the other 5K events.

My DS 8 was very disappointed, he wants a Mickey medal.

does anyone have pictures of what the plastic medallions look like for other races that people have been in? Just wondering. Actually a little nosey lol
