Hi everyone!

We're planning our first trip ever to Disneyland and California Adventure for February.

We went to Disney World in January 2020 right before the pandemic with my son (2 years old at the time). We bought the memory maker and LOVED getting all of the photos from our whole trip, especially since it was his first time in Disney.

This time we're taking my son (4 now) and my daughter (1.5). It'll be her first time seeing Mickey and the gang and riding rides. We'd love to get all the pictures again.

I see photopass is included with Genie+. We're going to be at the parks for 4 days. Not sure yet if we'll get Genie+ every day or not.

Anyone know what it would mean for the pictures if we didn't get Genie+ for the whole trip? Would they still include pictures from the whole trip if we got Genie+ for one day? Or just the days you paid for Genie+? Any insight would be helpful, thanks!

MaxPass photos were included.
On a few trips when it was slow we didn't buy MP every day.
Those days we did not get any photos, only the days we had purchased MP were we able to get photos.

Before MP we would by a photo-pass for the week we were in the parks. That way we knew we wouldn't miss anything

You can always buy just Genie+ for one of you to get photos if you didn't want to buy a photo pass.

One day photo pass at WDW is $70. Being able to buy it for the price of Genie+ Is a bargain.

Just add it for one person the days you don’t have planned to use it.

As others have said, you only need one person in your group to have Genie+ for the day in order to get photopass for that day. Note that most characters don't have photopass right now so you'll mostly be getting magic shots and ride photos.

For the ride photos, you can just enter the code and nobody will check that it is actually you in the photo. You actually don't all have to be in the same photo as most Photopass photographers will allow your group to split up and take individual photos or whatever groupings you want. Pre-Genie+, some photographers even told us to just screenshot the code of the person who bought it so that even if our group splits up, we would all have a code but I don't know if this is officially supposed to be how it works.

OK thanks everyone! That's a great idea to at least plan to get Genie+ for one of us each day for the pictures.

I still need to look into how worth it it'll be as far as lines. We may end up getting it every day for all of us anyway. It's a lot of money for 4 days but with a 4 year old and 1 year old minimizing time in lines would definitely be nice.

I didn't think about less pictures with characters too. I thought they were still around to get pictures with them in the background. Just not hugs and autographs like the before times?

If they don't have photopass photographers at the new character set ups then I wonder how many pictures we'll even get. I think the only ride photo of my son from our WDW trip was the 7 dwarves mine train. Most of the rides he could ride didn't have pictures. I'm assuming Disneyland is similar that the ride pictures are on the bigger thrill rides that my husband and I will take turns riding as single riders.

Ride photos are on Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Guardians, Incredicoaster, and Racers. i think right now, Incredicoaster is the only one without a mask requirement.

Most characters are sort of boxed into a small area and you can go up to take selfies with them but there are no Photopass photographers. You still line up for characters in Cars Land, Fantasy Faire and Avengers Campus but most of these don't have photographers most of the time either. Unless something has changed since I last went, Cast Members are not allowed to touch your phone or camera so you have to take your own photos or politely ask another guest to help you.
