I'd like to get DH a unit that holds a keg?/pony keg and keeps it cold. I've done some research but have a lot of questions. I'm going looking tomorrow to see if something like this fits our needs.

He likes German beers. Once tapped, I have no idea how long the beer stays "fresh". We do entertain occasionally. I know there is Co2 involved. I looked at something called a Kegerator. We have a wet bar off of our den and it would fit with slight modifications.

I know Heinekin has a dispensor for their mini kegs but he doesn't care for Heinekin.

Any help is appreciated.

Here's a little info from my husband.

Look for a good kegerator.

A keg will stay fresh appox. 6 weeks.

The German beer kegs will require a different type of tap than American beers.

The CO2 cylinder can be changed out at a local welding supply shop.

Different taps and accessories can be purchased at beverage factory.com.

Be prepared for the price of a keg. The price has gone up and the last 7 gallon keg of Coors Light was $70. German beer will be more.

If you have any more questions just ask!:drinking1

For some reason, I think they say around 3 months and it'll start to tank after that. If you have any hefeweissen on draft, I'll be stopping by and watching some Purdue games with you sometime. ;)

I suggest that you forget those units sold at Home Depot, Sams / Costco and go with a unit from these guys.

A properly maintained kegerator will keep a keg fresh for 30 days at least.

I received a Summit unit last father's day from my darling wife. No complqints even keeping it in a hot garage.

Look for a place the recharges fire extinguishers to get the co2 refilled. A call to your local firehouse should find you a place.

Keg deposits usually range from 30 - 50 bucks.

Enjoy.

I know I'll kill the spelling but he is fond of Spaten, Killians, Warsteiner Dunkel.

Never lasts that long at my house. Additionally, I only order 1/4 or "pony" kegs so we do not run into that issue. I think 3 months is pushing it...

Great link. Who would have thought that beer could be so complicated?;)
