Any high school theater parents here?

My DS15 found out today that he made the cast of the spring musical, "Singing in the Rain". This is the first experience he has had with theater. He sings (beautifully!) in our church choir and has had solos, but has never acted or danced before. He did not get a lead role, but is in the "company".

So, what do I need to know as a new theater mom?

(fwiw, he is also in the high school band, which is a big commitment, and he is now on staff of the school newspaper. We are on block scheduling, so he'll only have geometry, French, and environmental science next semester. I still hope he didn't bite of more than he can chew!)

My DD is in theatre but never can seem to get a part in the High School productions, so she usually gets parts in the local community theatre instead.

I do know DD has done tech crew for the musicals and such and around here....especially tech week, you will be living, eating, breathing theatre!

Maybe with company it won't be a huge time commitment until tech week, I'm not sure how it is done at different schools. I just know I dread all the drop-off/pick-up doings I've had to do & then waiting until after 11 pm - midnight for the performances to be over (but yours may not go that late). Last year they did Sweeney Todd & I had NO desire whatsoever to actually see the show. I showed up at 10ish on Thursday and waited over an hour for it to be finished. I believe it started at 7? It might have been 8 pm.

The kids have fun though.
