Any high backed boosters that would fit a 7 year old?

The high backed booster our 7 year old is in right now is an old 5 pt harness one that converted to a backed booster. However, it no longer fits her right as the shoulder strap isn't above her her shoulder anymore, so she has outgrown it.

Does anyone know of a different high backed booster that would fit a 7 year old? She is 50 lbs and 48 inches tall.

Thanks!

My 8 yo is about that same size, give or take a couple of pounds and inches. We use Graco Nautilus seats and she fits fine in them. I recently had to adjust the headrest to raise the shoulder strap guide, and it's perfect plus I'm pretty sure I still have room to move up even more as she grows.

Both of my kids can still do a high back booster and they are 9 and 11. I think they are Graco. They are short kids, but taller than your 7 yo. Not sure the specific "make" of Graco..

My dd is almost 7 and we just bought her the Britax Parkway SGL....it was pricey ($150 or so), but it goes all the way up to 120lbs and 53in I believe so we knew it would fit her as long as we wanted her to be in the booster. Oh, and my dd is 60lbs and 50in and there's more than enough room.

I'd think that most would. My 8 year old is in a HBB, but he's almost too tall now- though not yet. In another inch, he'll likely have to move. He's 4'6" and 75lbs and his height is actually in his torso. So, it would fit a much taller child who carries their height differently. I can't remember which seat we have, but the fact that it's easy for my long torso'ed child to fit makes me think that there must be several other seats out there that would work. He technically even passes the 5-point test for not needing a booster at all in the back seat of our van even though I don't pass it yet and I'm 5'1"!

*My oldest started the HBB not at the highest setting. He was almost 6 years old and 48". I can't check the brand right now but will edit once I get a chance.

The Graco Turbobooster is a great choice for most boostered kiddos. It does convert to a no back booster when your DD outgrows the back.

Do you know what seat she is in now? Do you want to keep her in the harness? Why? For most typical children, a 7 yr old is ready to be in a booster full time. There is no research showing that the harness is safer than a properly used booster seat (currently).

If you are Canadian as your username suggests, remember that you have different laws and products than americans do!

DS is tall and is still in the Nautilus as a booster.

Snce you said she is using the current seat as a booster, obviously you aren't using it with the harness, right? So by shoulder strap you mean the seat belt?

Maybe she's just tall enough to not have the high back, if the belt is sitting correctly now? I know that in certain types of seats, the shouder belt hits DS correctly even without any booster. Like the very back of my sis in law's durango. Or the back seat of her Mercedes. If they brought those cars up to WA he'd still need a booster by law, but in CA I caN look at him, and see that he fits in the seatbelt better than I do in the seats I sit in, lol.

But just keep Canadian law and products in mind, because I think that most on the dis are from the states, and our ideas might not apply to you.

My 8-yo is still in a Graco high back booster, I'm not sure of the exact name. Turbo something?

I second that!! WE have had the monterey since my DS outgrew his harnessed seat (which was also a sunshine kids - the radian). The monterey still fits him comfortably, although we usually only use it for long trips since he fits the seatbelt fine too. He is 9 years old, about 80lbs and 56" tall.

The Graco Turbo high back booster is what my son uses as well. He just turned 7 but he is 49 inches and 60 pounds. It gets good safety ratings whenever boosters are reviewed.

We have this seat too and love it! I love that you can latch it in so in the event of an accident (if it were unoccupied) it wouldn't be flying around the car! Its a great booster!

My 8.5 year old is about 90% height/weight and fits in a Monteray high back booster and a Recaro Vivo.

Hi all. Sorry to butt in on your thread but we are coming from the UK and can't bring our usual car seats on the flight. I thought I'd read that only under 5's needed car seats - is this incorrect? An info link/current car seat regulations would be gratefully received. :)

Yes, FL rules are very different. And I think you are right about the age (whereas in Washington state it is vastly different).

But there is the law, and then there is safety. Driving in a different car (and if I'm not mistaken on the different side of the car and different side of the road) in an unfamiliar place with tons of tourists just as turned around as you might be...that's a time for making sure the child fits into that seatbelt, not for being more lax.

Have you seen the bubble bum booster? Worked out great for us, and didn't take up much room at all in the carryon.

Thanks for that. I suppose I can always buy a couple at Walmart when I arrive, will be much cheaper than the crazy prices the car hire places charge!

Legally, kids can be out of seats after 5 in Florida. Howver, in terms of safety, kids should be in boosters until age 10-12, or when they pass the 5 step test. The bubble bum is a great seat for traveling with, or stop at the local Walmart for a Harmony Lite Rider no back booster ($13-$15 each).
