Open enrollment started today and we have the option of a HSA. My husband is 55 so I believe we can contribute up to $7550 or so into this account. (including catch up contribution) His company is only allowing a deduction of $4950. Can I send a check to the HSA for the difference? I would have my husband look into this but he is at a convention and is swamped? Thanks in advance for all help!

Is the HSA for an individual or family? For a family it's $6450 +$1000 catchup contribution. For an individual it's $3250 + catchup. So sounds like they have him down as individual coverage.

Thanks firefly. I signed up for medical for him, myself and three dependents. Maybe there is a glitch. I will have him check with hr when he gets back!

We had a similar issue and couldnt claim what i thought should be the max! My company was limiting our family at about 5300...call HR:Benefits hotlibe - they should help you!

Yes, you can send a check in for the difference if for some reason the company won't let you max out. You should then be able to claim that contribution on your taxes in order for it to come out to a pretax contribution.
