I have trip to WDW planned for the end of October with my daughter and special needs young adult son. I use a respite nurse I have hired privately for a few days a month at home. We would love to go to Epcot one of our days for the food and wine while my son is cared for in our hotel. He is really very easy to be with, takes care of self in most all ways except he requires medication by gtube a few times a day and he also is TPN dependent with a central line. I keep trying to do a google search for a home health agency or temporary travel nurse for the WDW area- and mostly postings to find work come up. I'm hoping some of you experts could share ideas with me. If the nurse wanted to work more than one day we could make that happen too..:worship::tinker::tinker:

Have you tried calling Orlando hospitals for recommendations? I would ask the Orlando children's hospital social worker unit for some agencies they work with.

Additionally, I would add that if you participate in any online groups that are by/for parents of kids with special needs (or kids with your son's exact condition) and ask there as well.

Someone in one of those groups may have already used a respite caregiver in Orlando, and can give you better advice...

Try the same agencies that do home care in the Orlando area. Could he get by with a CNA or LPN? Could you feed him before you go to Epcot? Then, take a short break back at the resort to feed him again and then you could back to Epcot.

We used Maxim for our nursing care while at Disney in January (it was my dd's wish trip). Mark was our contact and he called after the first night to make sure all was well. We had night nursing for 6 nights, 2 nurses alternated nights. They were excellent and we will use the same company when we return in December. Lovely nurses, very professional but personable. YMMV. We used Healthforce a few years ago at Universal but I don't think they still have an office in Orlando. We do still use Healthforce when we visit Fort Myers though and they are good.

You are getting very close to the trip, I would set something up asap.

My daughter sounds a lot like the OPs son, this is great information to have for our next trip (here now). I've thought about doing this but hadn't got around to doing the figuring out part yet!

Thank you so much for sharing this with me. I will be calling this week.
