Not the Kindle Fire but the original Kindle.. Amazon Deals had a refurbished one for $49. I purchased a PanDigital reader for $85 during Christmas. Thankgoodness it has a year warranty. It broke but I was able to get a new one under the warranty. I am pretty happy with it. I am able to acess the internet and it has Barnes and Noble built in.

I don't think you'll find any "deals" on the Fire. I think everyone is required to sell it for the same price.

The only suggestion I could make is that if you order online, you most likely won't have to pay tax.

Amazon just had a special on refurb Kindle Fires. I would keep an eye on Amazon.

This week I got an email from Shoprite (a food store in our area) for a Kindle Fire only available online for $179 with free shipping. You might have to sign up but it is worth a shot (we already have a Fire and DH loves his) www.shopritedelivers.com

Okay....this may take the discussion in a different direction a bit but I have to ask. My DS turns 12 in July and he says he wants either a tablet or a Kindle Fire. The shoprite deal is pretty good at $180 but I wonder if there is another tablet out there that would be better for him? Anyone have any pros and cons to the Kindle versus another tablet? TIA!!

Keep an eye open for Amazon refurb specials. They have run the deal at least twice in the last few months. The refurb price has been $139 both times.
