DH is a big golfer, and we're hoping to go to HH in March 2003. Any DVCers ever go there for golf? Tell me anything you can about any of the courses. And since I don't golf, what suggestions do you have for this non-golfer? It'll just be the two of us. Are the beach nature walks held daily?

I haven't visited HH for 15 years, but I used to go on annual golf vacations there for several years.

I never ran into a golf course that I felt was a poor value there. They all seem to be in great condition with varying golf architects' personal touches.

I will say that the Harbour Town course in Sea Pines Plantation (where they play the PGA tour event) was the only course we felt was not a good value. It costs a bundle to play, and when we played during the summer it seems like they are always working on the course (aerating the greens, etc) so it is not in tip top condition.

I can't remember the names of all the courses, and I'm sure there are new ones. Your DH will not be disappointed with the courses there, I am sure.

I played Harbour Town over Xmas and I would agree that it is a GREAT course but a bit pricey. It's $240 a round but they were doing a special to play the other two course in Sea Pines and Harbour Town for $305 for all three. Still pretty steep but IMHO, if you're going to play HT, you might as well get the other two courses for $65 ( they are usually $75 and $60 each) .

There are a load of championship courses in the area available at a much lower cost but do remember that March is prime time for golf, indeed the MCI classic is played at Harbour Town about this time. It would be worthwhile looking up "lastminutegolf" in the phone book when you get there, if he is flexible you call up a consolidator the night before you want to play. They will fix you up with a good course at a discounted rate as they are filling in tee times for the local clubs. HT does not work with this company so no chance of a cheap round there LOL.

I would suggest a visit to one of the local golf stores ( there is a very good one about a mile from the resort, if you exit the resort and go to the main road, take a right and the shop is on your right in a small plaza of "factory outlet stores" ) . Get one of the free golf magazines they hand out and look for any deals etc that are being offered.
