LOVE LOVE LOVE the area.. just came back from 2 weeks up there for my daughters wedding. She lives in Sevierville. Anyway... Ober Gatlinburg is a great area... if it is still cold they may have the machines going for skiing, if not, then the spring fun may be available. We did a snow tubing session and it was great.
Blaine's is a great pub/eatery at traffic light 8 in Gatlinburg as well.
We normally stay at the Econolodge Riverside in Pigeon Forge, just because it is easy access to everything and awesome prices, AND a great indoor pool and hot tub area, was great the 3 times we have been there, in the rain and in the cold.
Be careful about the travel to Cherokee, NC, the main road is closed from Gatlinburg so it isn't as close of a drive as it used to be. It is actually a couple hour drive now as you have to go back out to Highway 40 and then come back in through Maggie Valley. They had a bad storm back in January which washed out a football length of the main road, estimated time to repair is about a year.
The Ripley's exhibits are great, daughter/son in law gave us the all access pass for a wedding gift, and we did most of the activities, still haven't done the two mini golfing parks or the Guinness Museum, Haunted House or Mirror Maze.
HAVE FUN!!!
