So, who else out there is a first-time home buyer?

I just feel overwhelmed and feel the need to talk to someone else who is going through the same thing!

We are in the beginning stages of purchasing our first house.

We have met with ONE realtor, who was recommended, but I don't like him already... and I didn't even MEET him, DH did! When asked what his commission rate was, he said, "We'll talk about that later." (Like a CAR DEALER!!! :sad2:) If I had been there, I would have said, "Well then... LATER!" Doesn't he know realtors are a dime a dozen? :confused3

Our next step is the pre-approval from someone... my credit union would give us a good deal, but our bank "claims" they can beat ANY rate. :snooty: Sure...

Buyers dont pay a commission. So already, I would look for another realtor.

Oh REALLY!

Seriously? I thought that you pay something like 6% to him for looking for you... like a realtor fee or something?

Nope the seller pays that commission
Well then. I wasn't there, so I can't tell you how the conversation went, but apparently it got to the point where commission was talked about, and this realtor said, "We will talk about that later."

Now I am MAD. I HATE when people try and take advantage of me. :snooty:

Hey congrats on your first home!!

We bought our first home last June. As PP said, you don't pay a fee. Our realtor was REALLY great, we are still friends with him.

For me finding the house and all of that wasn't as stressful as when we actually moved in, I found it to be a big adjustment going from an apartment to a house. We are actually in litigation (I think that is the word) with the inspection company that we dealt with because there were sooo many things that went wrong after we moved in.

BUT it was overall a great experience and you will be SO happy once you find the house for you. I wish you luck!
