Do you have any experience with Thrifty? Any responses to the following would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I made reservations a couple of weeks ago for a minivan for 2 weeks in July at $205/week.

1. The reservation was made online. I was not asked for a credit card number, but I was provided with a reservation number. Will they still honor their $205/week rate even though prices have risen?

2. The reservation is advertised as a "Dodge Caravan or similar". I like the Caravan - but I hate the Astro. Will I stand a good chance of getting a Caravan?

3. How much of a hassle is it to get to their off-airport facility where the van will be picked up?

4. Are their cars in good condition?

5. Anyone find a better deal for minivans for July?

and my husband usually goes and get the car while I wait with the kids and luggage at the airport for him to come back and get us really easy and the place is not far from the airport.

I'm pretty sure that once you have made a reservation they will honor the price on your paperwork, just double check your receipt and go back in and see them if its not what your comfirmation states

NOt too sure about the type of car we usually go with what they have in our catogory.

About the cars condition we have always gotten new ones or pretty new ones and have never had any problem.

I would keep check back with them and also look at other companies for specials between now and when you leave the prices are always changing sometimes on a daily bases.

Hope this helps

I have rented from Thrifty a couple of times, and from several other companies in Orlando.

When you make a reservation, the price is locked in. If you make a change later, such as adding or subtracting a day, your rate might go up, but as long as you don't change it, the rate is guaranteed and locked in.

Dunno. I always rent cars and have no experience with the vans. Sorry.

None at all. Thrifty is probably the closest of the off-site companies, only about 5 minutes away by shuttle bus, and the Thrifty shuttle runs about every 15 minutes (unlike some of the others which say 15 minutes but actually run about 30).

They all have been for me. Not all brand new, but clean and well-maintained.

If you're a member of Sam's Club, try their codes with National. Also look on MouseSavers.com's rental car page for codes.

1. Due to prices, we rented from Thrifty in both November, 2005 and April, 2006. Both times we received the rate we booked.

2. The reservation is advertised as a "Dodge Caravan or similar". I like the Caravan - but I hate the Astro. Will I stand a good chance of getting a Caravan?

In November we had reserved a "Dodge Caravan or similar." When DH got there, they were out of them and he paid $12 extra per day to upgrade to a T&C. It had much more storage room in the back and worked better since we had 7 people.

3. How much of a hassle is it to get to their off-airport facility where the van will be picked up?

In November, the bus was waiting when DH got to it, in April, we had to wait about 15 minutes since one pulled away just as we got to the airport door. (This was at 12:15 a.m.)

4. Are their cars in good condition?

Ours were both very nice. I did find a scratch on the door in April, and noted it on the form provided before we left the lot. There was no problem. When we informed the attendant, he just asked if we had marked it.

Since I don't know your dates, I couldn't check, but this website: http://www.vacationoutlet.com/car/default.asp usually has some very good deals. I was able to get our Equinox (mid-size SUV) for $107.xx for a weekly rental in August.

They have bigger minivans at Thrifty than Caravans??? Town & Country is Bigger??? I also have a reservation for August for 9 days with a total cost of $340. Can you get a free upgrade to the T&C??? The Caravan is small, correct? I need all the space I can get.

The Caravan is a nice sized minivan. The T&C is nealy identical in size, but it may have a few nicer features. Both seat 7 comfortably and hold about the same amount of luggage. The Chevy Astro has a bigger interior (and is really not a minivan - its more like a full sized van), but it has a cheap feel to it.

Used them in December with no problems. Best thing to do is go to their web site and sign up for their Bluechip Card, then call and add your Bluechip number to your reservation. When the shuttle picks you up tell the driver that you are a bluechip member, then when you arrive at Thrifty proceed to the Bluechip members only line. They will have everything ready for you and off you go.

I used them last August. I got a great deal on a midsize car for $150 for 8 days. It was too good to pass up. The check in process was super fast (much faster than the last time I used Alamo). The shuttle ride took very little extra time. I would use them again in a flash for a rate like that.
