Any experience with cane chairs recently?

I'm curious if anyone has had experience lately with the use of cane chairs? In the list of prohibited items (https://disneyland.disney.go.com/faq/parks/permitted-items/), it does state:

Folding chairs, with the exception of cane-chair and seat-walker mobility aids

So it sounds like they are allowed, but I'm a worrier.

Context: I'm taking my Mom to Disneyland next March for her birthday and she has some mobility restrictions to where she needs to sit from time to time if it's a long line. She's super proud and usually pushes herself until she can't go anymore, and I want to try to prevent that. I may be able to talk her into an ECV or wheelchair, but we will see...a cane chair may be a good compromise. Thanks all!

We've seen a few people carrying them around at DL over the past 2 months or so. Most people didn't even seem to notice, but it was noteworthy to us because we knew they weren't allowed in the parks before.

They were added to the Disney websites as an 'allowed item' after the changes to DAS (Disability Access Service) were announced April 9, 2024.
You might also want to consider a rollator (Walker with wheels and fold down seat) if you are concerned about CMs realizing the cane seats are allowed. Rollators have been used for quite a few years and CMs should be quite familiar with them. Rollators are also much more stable than the cane seats and many have storage compartments under the seat

Any updates to this? Looking to bring a cane chair. I am not disabled, but staying on my feet for long periods of time messes with my hip/knees! Could use a break occasionally in the parks!

As was mentioned above, I've seen people with them. Not many and I don't know their circumstances.

I've had the same thought, Willow. In between attractions there are always benches and chairs, but a long line for a ride could be a problem. But a cane chair looks like it would be a hassle to carry the rest of the time, and to wrangle into a ride seat.

Hello! I wonder about the ride seat hassle as well. The one I would purchase weighs 2.6 lbs. so that doesn't seem bad at all.

The weight doesn't seem like an issue to me, but rather the length. The ones I've researched online are nearly three feet long. There might be some that fold in half vertically (not sure), but then you'd have to open and close that dimension every time, too.

Hmm, need to look at that too!!

For anyone looking for a handy cane chair:

Over the summer we had a trip to Europe planned, and I know the river cruise ship does not allow scooters, and I really don't need one all the time. But when planning on walking a lot on tours, I started looking for a cane chair. I really didn't like the look of the ones that when folded, still have three legs sticking out. I researched and found this one on Amazon, and (being the gadget peron I am) fell in love with this concept. I was a bit afraid that it would be heavy to lug around in the "cane" formation, but I loved that it still only have one leg.

So I ordered one, and immediatly knew I had made the right decision... It's simple to open and close, even when moving, and is much more comfortable that some of the others I had looked at. Several other folks on the cruise remarked that it was such a good idea, and one lady, after trying mine, immediately ordered one for herself.

Pros: Very sturdy, and easy to open and close even on the move. Not a whole lot heavier than a normal cane.
Con: More expensive. A bit heavier than regular cane, but not bad.

Here's the Amazon link for the one I bought (there are a couple of designs, but this one is adjustable for height of user, the others are not). It has a phone holder and a hook on the handle so would be wonderful for waiting for fireworks at the park.

Thank you, Jlundeen, that's very good information.

Have you used that cane chair anywhere equivalent to a Disneyland ride? I.e., where the cane's length might have been awkward to fit it somewhere?

We packed it diagonally (after making it as short as I could) in my large suitcase for our Europe trip for the flights, and I took along the folding one for on the plane. I used it on all the daily tours, opened it into the seat for quick breaks. For carrying it on the motor coach between destinations I just held it upright by my legs, just as I would have any other cane. It's no longer than any other cane that you can adjust to your height. It is a bit heavier than one of those little folding ones, but I never felt any discomfort. YMMV

I do plan to take it on any future Disney trips, and bungie it to the back of my scooter - will make a nice seat for hubby for shows/fireworks. I would still then be able to use it if I needed to walk very far instead of my little folding one.

Glad to answer any questions about it... and no, I don't work for the company (LOL) but I am really taken with this cane, especially the one leg rather than three when folded - I always was afraid I was going to trip on one of those legs....

Bought one, love it. Very light and folds down easily. Just tall enough and you can adjust the height. The seat is pretty comfortable as well. Hoping it works out with hip/knee issues. Getting older can be UGH.
