has anybody taken this product for weight loss? I'm always leary of weight loss pills so just curious.

Yes, it does help. Be prepared for some gas, and possibly having to run to the bathroom. My Mom had those symptoms, but DH did not have to "hurry".
You probably already know the pill is taken with each meal, and works by removing the fat from the food, and out through your bowels. You may lose 10 pounds the first month. But, remember to take a multivitamin daily. :)

hmmm I was wondering too, but DH doesn't like that stuff. :guilty:

What kind a multivitamin and why?

Xenical is a prescription drug. DH's doctor said to take a vitamin because of the usual nutrients getting flushed out through the bowel. We take the Walmart or Sams Club brand. Supposed to be the same as Centrum.

I too have taken it and lost 70 lbs but if you don't change your diet it will all come back. Exercise speeds up weight loss too when you do them together. Like the others said if you don't change anything it won't work. The side affects are a very oily you know what. And gas with oil coming out too so be very carefull..... I does not change calories either just cuts the fat down by a third. So if your calorie intake is high too you will not lose. If you are on any meds. you have to wait two hours after taking Xenical or they won't be absorted in your system so if you every have an emergency while taking these tell because pain killers etc. won't work.

Like I said it will come back mine did...because it isn't a fix for the problem but it will help you get there if you have a life style change. Good Luck :cheer2:

I'm from Canada and I think it cost me $300 or more for 3 months , taken three times a day. I was lucky because my husband insurance company paid for it up to a year but I had to get a doctor to say I needed it. I also had to go to the doctors monthy to get checked.

thanks guys. I was concerned because some of the side effects are stomach related and I'm just getting over some pretty bad stomach problems and have gerd. I'm doing weight watchers but dr is really pushing this pill. My blood sugar is boderline high and it would help if I could get some weight off as quickly as possible to avoid this from getting worst. This dr only told me to take it once a day with my largest meal to see how it goes. I guess she will increase it if I seem to tolerate it well.

My mom used it during some time, and we (the rest of the family) are all happy she doesn't use it anymore.
Together with the oily you-know-what came the most awful smell (according to the doctor, this was "normal").
Also, it gave my mom other problems. It only helps when you eat a lot of fat, not against the sugar you eat (so you still need to find a way to control your sugar-eating-habbits) After a while, my mom was on weightwatchers (i.e. not that many greasy stuff) and she still took the Xenical, and since she didn't eat "enough" fat things, she got stomac problems and so on.

That is true you are not to take them if you eat little fat because that is what it does and could give you problems. I found that hard because the stuff I bought to diet was already low fat. Your Dr. might want you on this pill because pharmaist said that xencial helps control sugar levels. But if you follow a proper diet you may not get the side affects. I only got the oil affect when I was really bad and ate alot of fat. There is a support help line that comes with the package and they send you stuff to help you. Hope this helps.

I'm following a low fat diet anyway. That's one of the reasons I figured this wouldn't help that much for me.

With me it is't the fat part that kills my diet as it is the calories. Because you can get alot of low to no fat stuff but you still need fat in your diet. I know because my hair got really thin and I wondered why and the dr. said that you need some fat. Do you follow a diet plan? I think on this plan you have to have at least 40grams a fat a day. I found I never had enough fat. Any diet sucks I have done it so many times and each time I think I will keep it off it comes back. Ask any person they can tell you how to lose but it is hard and it is a life change. And a mind set too. I have done it three times now and I am back to where I started. I guess I am a slow learner.....Or love food to much

I took it for a few months a few years ago and decided that the side effects were not worth the weight loss.
