Our 'ghost' is getting to be a bit of a problem - Zach will not sleep in his bedroom if at all possible and always ends up with me, Danny sleeps under the covers to hide from the man(he says so, anyway) and I keep getting my ponytail yanked when I sit by the fireplace. even Baz who is the most sceptical man in the world, and now sleeps in Zachs bed most of the time, admits that Zachs bedroom has a cold spot where the chimney goes up and it does feel abit odd in there sometimes.
I'm not scared but a bit ticked off that the kids are. I've tried reassuring Zach, but what can I do when this old fart keeps materialising out of his wall???

BTW I am NOT joking about any of this - not quite Amityville, but very, very annoying, esp. the ponytail yanks - it hurts!!!

So you've got a ghost Elise
Its sounds like some REALLY strange goings on in your house.
Does the ghost actually appear to the boys or can they just sense him ?
Your brave for not being scared. If that was me, I would be in a B&B with my house on the market :D I know they don't hurt you, but they're just creepy. I get scared of my own shadow if I'm alone in the house. I can't even watch horror films.
How long has this been going on ?

It's a very old council house - mid- terrace and it's actually a protected building. We moved in here about 18 months ago and it is a lovely little house.

Zach has actually seen him - Old man with lacey?? clothes and Daniel always sleep with his head under the covers. i asked him why and he mumbled 'hide from man' bless him, he's only 2½.

Baz and I have felt it - all cold, plus the pulling of hair and it's more annoying than scary.

Our next door neighbours have also reported cold spots - along the side of the house that connects to ours - spooky!

Pardon this ignorant Yank's questions. but what is a "council house, mid-terrace, protected building?"

I'm with Alexandra. I'd be outta there in New York minute. :(

council house, mid-terrace, protected building
Council House - Cos we're so broke that the council (Local Government)has provided us with lovely lo-cost housing.

mid-terrace - Lots of little houses all glued together in a row - terrace.

protected building - It's so old that the frontage has been protected so we can't do anything ghastly like replace the 'orrible, rotten, draughty sash windows with nice, new, shiny, draught proofed ones. or paint it an unoriginal colour - rather than dreary, road-stained, off-white.

It's heaps better than the council dwellings across the road from us as it's classed as a 19th century cottage type dwelling, as opposed to mid-70's block of flats(apartments).

Mind you, we're not that broke really, we just live in a commuter belt so the house prices are hyper inflated and there is no way in our present state we could even dream of getting a mortgage. The normal privately rented places are about triple the rent.
We currently pay about £250 ($400) a month for 3 bedrooms, living room, bathroom, extremely large kitchen/diner and utility room with a little walled in garden in the back. When we rented privately we paid around £700 ($1120) for 2 bedroom in a house so small it had to have sliding doors in the bedrooms and a spiral staircase.

Thanks for enlightening me Elise. It sounds like what we refer to as a rent controlled place, sort of. Big price difference. Can see why you put up with Casper. ;)

I'm no expert in this area however I have a few suggestions.

Officially, I don't think the Church don't really do exorcisms and things like that theses days.

I don't codemn of condone this however, I think what you could do is perhaps consult a medium ( rather than an exorcist ). They can perhaps ' contact ' whoever it is that's still living in your house and ask them why they're there, what their intentions are, why they keep pulling your hair.

Ask around about spiritualists and mediums .. but don't tell any of the people you speak to much about the ghost himself or you could find a charlatan who feeds you a line of crap to make a buck.

Does he speak to your kids ? Does he try and make contact with them at all ?

Have you spoken to the council about wether or not the previous tenants had any problems ? Have you got any way of contacting them yourself ?

Also bear in mind that messing with things that aren't ' of this world ' is a tricky area .. one not to be attempted by amateurs or wannabes. Your spirit seems harmless enough so there's no need to make him angry.

I strongly advise against things like Ouija boards, seances and the like. There's no guarantee that once you've opened a door you'll only contact the person you intend to .. very dangerous.

Anyway, like animals, children are a lot more receptive to things like spirits so that's probably why they've seen him.

Personally, you're braver than I am. I'd have got the hell out of there by now .. and had to buy a new pair of trousers.

Well, I kinda sorted it out. I basically went up there with my big old crucifix for protection(LOL) and told him off for scaring the kids. Really felt stupid, actually, talking to a space in Zachs' room. I told him we didn't mind him hanging around if he didn't make a nuidance of himself, but wouldn't it be better if he just moved onwards and upwards. Didn't get any reaction so thanked him for listening and snuck downstairs.
Then I told Zach a little fib and said that I'd had someone in to sort the ghost out and he wouldn't have any more problems. So hopefully he can get some sleep now or at least not make so much fuss at bedtimes.
It's been a few days now and touch wood, nothing has occurred so maybe he took the hint.

Thats good Elise - Your a braver woman than I am :p
Keep us posted if you get any more bumps in the night
Alex

I hope that did the trick! Good luck.

P.S. Is his name Peeves? ;)

This is so interesting. I wouldn't mind a ghost as long as it didn't try to frighten me.
