Any DVCer's know of any citrus groves in the area?

I know, it's a strange question. But, my four year old would love to see how oranges, etc. grow; and it probably would make her day to be able to pick one right off the tree. I'm thinking it's about the right time of year???--but being a true northerner, I can only tell you when the red delicious are ripe!

I checked the other boards, but couldn't find any info, and I just know that one of my fellow DVCers could point me in the right direction!

If not, I will check with the folks at OKW when we check in.

You will need a car to drive to them. At any rate I would think the 4 year old would rather see MK instead of oranges on trees. What might surprise you is the amount of horse farms around the area. I saw many more horses than oranges around Central Florida.

We will have a car (a Jeep (hopefully) thanks to Plutoforpresident); so that won't be problem.

We'll be there for almost 10 days (and our 4th trip in 18 months); and even though the MK is the top place we spend our time--I wouldn't mind an afternoon away from it--if you know what I mean.

We live across the street (really a dirt road) from a 260 acre horse farm; so we would pass on that.

Someone should be able to tell you where to find some oranges on the tree. There are many other attractions you will find in the area quite by accident on your quest for the orange. It is fun to get away from WDW for a day . Just try and stay away from Orlando during rush hour, they don't call route 4 "the parking lot" for nothing.

We buy all our citrus from Pell's (Grower(groves)/shipper/retail store and nursery with citrus) - their fresh juice is to die for! Don't know if you want to drive to Osteen but check out their website which also has a citrus calendar showing what's available in each month:

We had a great time visiting the Citrus Tower!
It was quite a few years ago and all the trees had died from a bad freeze. We took the tour around the groves and looked at all the little teeny orange trees they had just planted.

I highly recommend a day trip to Clermont.

Thank you montessori for posting the info anyway. We've been wondering the same thing. Can't go all the way to Florida and not show the kids where their daily orange juice comes from, but we didn't want to take too much time or driving from all our expensive paid-for Orlando activities!
