We have NEVER been during that week. The only busy time that we have been several times is the week of Thanksgiving week. Our daughter just got accepted into the Disney College Program and will be there from Jan. 9th until June 1st. Our youngest has spring break starting on March 30th and doesn't go back until Tuesday April 10th. I am thinking ROAD TRIP from MD to FL. I already looked up airfares and they are pretty HIGH already because I think those dates were released in the last month. :sad2: Unfortunately we just found out her fate on Monday.

Is this week as crowded as Thanksgiving/Christmas-New Year's week???? I would love advice. I have not even looked at points during this period or availibility. Thanks....

I went into touring plans.com (I have a subscription) and checked the dates you mentioned. The crowd levels are 9 out of 10 or 8 out of 10. Whereas Christmas eve and Christmas Day are 9.7 and 10 out of 10 on Christmas Day and same for Thanksgiving Day.

However, we've actually traveled around Easter before and the crowds will didn't get heavy until Good Friday. So in 2012 Easter is April 8th, so you would be home before Easter weekend. So I'm a little confused by the crowd levels estimated by Touring Plans.

Now that I confused you completely....:rotfl:

We go every year at Easter. DH is a teacher and both boys are in school so this is when we can go. It is crowded, no doubt. But we hit the parks at rope drop stay until around lunch then leave. We go back after dinner. We have always used TouringPlans and go to the suggested parks and use the plans.

Although crowded, we find it to be no big deal. We have been to the World at other far less crowded time. Would I prefer that? Yes, but such is life.

Actually I messed up the dates but your Easter date is wrong too. :rotfl2: School starts back on April 10th. Easter is on Sunday April 8th.

We used to go at Easter before we bought a condo on the Gulf side. However, was it crowded? Yes. BUT if you know what you're doing, you'll be fine. Have a great time!

We have gone the week before Easter and yes, it was crowded. On one of the days - either Tuesday or Wednesday of that week, the traffic was so congested going into the Magic Kingdom that we sat for over an hour not really even moving. The more popular rides at various parks had wait times all over an hour (my kids say it was closer to two hours).

However, I will say, that we still had an enjoyable trip. We stayed out of the parks at the busiest times - choosing to spend more time at the pool or at downtown disney (also very crowded). We took advantage of late hours when we could since we find that most people take advantage of early morning hours and are 'done' by the late hours.

This was a few years ago, and details are fuzzy - but if you just expect to find crowds and are patient - you will still have a great time. After all, it's the happy place. :)

Denise - we have never been during the holidays but I suspect crowd levels are very similar. We DID go over Easter LAST spring (2010). We had participated in that Disney Give A Day / Get a Day program so we each had a certificate to use for some special fast passes. We flew down on the Fri eve. of the week before that so we had 2 nights still in "dream" season before things really kicked in & got busy. We stayed 6 nights /5 days. We saved our vouchers for our last 3 days & we toured like regular for the first 2 days & used the special passes later. It was BUSY but like mid-summer busy when we first got there. It got busier as each day went closer to Easter. I was glad we had our vouchers or we would've only probably had about 5 or 6 rides / day by the last couple of days. I felt really BAD for all of the first-timers. Crowd levels were at 10's. By our last couple of days most everything had lines of 2.5 hours. Some things 3 hours (think Soarin'). We went EARLY to EMH's every am (EMH's started at 7:00!!) but it was the only way to have a decent shot at any rides. On our last 2 days the MK was full to capacity by around 10:30-11:00 and they stopped admissions until the afternoons...and the monorail was on overload. The lines there looked like mass evacuations were taking place. That was very scary looking. We had never seen the MK full and closed like that. Had only heard stories (they are true!).:rotfl: We left MK by 11:30-Noon. It was too much.

AM EMH's are the best way to get thru it IMHO. Can't stay out too late and make it up in time for those...hard to do it all. Glad we went...and are going again next spring. But again, will go early & leave for home before Easter hits. I don't have the patience for those kinds of crowds. (Oh, and our weather was so-so for the same dates...only low 70's during the day so pleasant but not a whole lot of pool weather unless you're a Canadian. The pools didn't feel heated to us.)

(I'd recommend if you're going to grab a ressie SOON as stuff will start booking up.) :goodvibes

Thanks LeeAnn........not sure what we are going to do. UGH

I snagged our flights a month ago on Jet Blue for $209 RT. I still watch tho...AT out of BWI is still running about $268 RT....to go down & back early / mid-week before Easter (so we can hook up!):rotfl:. That's my recommendation. Go down for 5 or 6 nights and leave like we're doing. Don't try to stay for the entire 8 or 10 nights & don't try to fly so close to Easter. Those are the highest prices.

We have been Easter time numerous times. We have also been Thanksgiving. Easter park crowds make Thanksgivng look like off season. The week before and of Easter are second only to Christmas week for theme park crowds and the main reason for being second rather than first is that during Easter both waterparks are open and it is usually warm enough to use them and thus they siphon off part of the crowd that at Christmas time would be in the theme parks because it is usually too cold for the waterparks. It will be extremely crowded at all parks. Also, if you do not apready have room reservations, you may not find any at DVC except possibly SSR.

Early morning is best chance to hit some things in any park before the huge crowds start. Some thoughts:

Fast passes: though they become a necessity, you should assume that fast passes will run out by noon for the entire day for the more popular rides and attractions.

Restaurants: You must make buffet and sit down restaurant reservations for dinner well in advance, and wise to do so 180 days out for character meals. True story: on the Thursday before Easter, we were at Crystal Palace in line to sign in for a 6 ressie and people in front of us had no ressie. They asked for when anything would be available. The CM checked the computer for a long time and then looked up and said, "Tuesday at 8:45." If you do not have reservations for park restaurants you will not eat. Also if you plan to eat at the counter service restaurants expect long lines during any normal eating times; the line can be up to 45 minutes and when you get food you may find nowhere to sit.

Parking: if you intend to drive to any park be aware that lots can fill particularly at MK. That can be the first form of closure at MK where they are not letting anyone in anymore for parking.

MK: Standby lines for popular rides can get to 2 1/2 hours or more, they can sometimes decrease significantly during a parade. Starting about 9:30 everything has long lines even Treehouse. Beginning about 4 and ending about 7:30 many things can get much more reasonable lines, e.g., Pirates which may have a 90 minute line at 11 may be no more than 10-15 minutes at 4 and that is true for a number of things except the mountains, Pooh, Peter Pan, and Dumbo which seldom ever let up. After 7:30 huge crowds return except for some relief for lines at rides during the nightly parades and then about an hour before closing if closing is at midnight which it usually is. Between 9:30 and 3:30 and for a while after 7 the park itself is difficult to walk through because street crowds are so thick. MK is extremely crowded everyday but its even worse two days are Easter and the day after. Everyone goes there on Easter under the belief that something special happens at MK on Easter that does not happen the other days of the week. It doesn't. Nothing goes on there on Easter that you cannot see the other days of the week. For parades if you must see them, recommend that you just wait until shortly before they happen and find an elevated spot (like stairs in the Town Hall area). Trying to go "early" to reserve a good curbside spot means at Easter time that you have to do it about 2 hours beforehand because that is when the curb grabbing begins during that time of year. MK is the only park that risks closure to new entries due to capacity crowds and although it usually does not happen during Easter it has on occassion on Easter Sunday and sometimes other days. Highest risk of having it occur is when Easter falls during last two weeks of March or first few days of April. That seems to be the biggest "double whammy" crowd time since you get crowds as a result of the majority of schools having their break always the week before or of Easter but then there are also a huge minority of schools that always have it between mid-March and early April regardless of when Easter falls.

Epcot: Beginning by 10 most things are packed (Spaceship is packed earlier than that simply because it is the first thing everyone sees and head for when they enter). Beginning about 3 many things are easy to get on, e.g., Spaceship will have become a walk-on. However, Soarin' and Test Track can get up to 3 hour or longer stand-by lines by 11 and stay that way into the evening. Make sure you check on shows at the stage near the American pavilion in Parade of Nations because they often have very good ones during Easter time. The walkway around the nations gets very crowded in the late afternoon to evening and thus plan to take longer to get to places if you have a reservation. Though there are no "light" crowd days during Easter, Epcot's somewhat lighter-than-huge days are Easter and the day before.

Studios: Crowds turn to huge by 10 or 10:30. It will usually be open to 10 or 11 although when they initially publish hours they may say only 8. Almost everything is hugely crowded from about 10 to 3. Tower and Rock n Rollercoaster can get sustained 90 minute or more lines with some relief during the afternoon parade and significant relief during Fantasmic when there is an early Fantasmic. Also, in late afternoon Tower can be as low as 30 minutes. Toy Story is a mess all day after first thing in the morning with 90 minute or longer lines forever. Moreover, the crowd is always gathered outside of it on the street and it gets so large that sometimes it is almost impossible to even walk through it to get from one side to other. Mermaid also has huge lines in late morning to late afternoon and then becomes somewhat easier to get on. Other than the ones mentioned, things can be fairly easy to get on after 3. When they have two Fantasmics in an evening, for the first one you need to show up at least 50 minutes early to assure a chance of getting in; the late one can then be a walk-on even at 5 minutes before show time. When only one Fantasmic at night, obey the at least 50 minute rule. Best way to assure a seat is the Fantasmic dinner package but call many months in advance. Easter Sunday is usually its somewhat light day.

AK: when they intially publish hours they may have AK closing at 5 or 6 and that will likely change to 8 as it has done for several years. As with others early morning is good but by 9:30 you have huge crowds. AK does not have wide walkways and thus walking around can be a problem because crowds get so thick. Also, plan to be wherever you want to be for the hour before and through the parade because once the crowds start for that you cannot even get from one place to another if it requires going through the area where the parade runs. Everest can get 2 1/2 hour or more sustained lines for most of the day. Others can be 90 minutes or more from mid morning to about 3 when they begin to taper off and by 4:30 or so, the lines can be quite short. For Lion King and Nemo stage shows you should show up well in advance (40 minutes or more to assure getting in). As with Epcot, its somewhat lighter days tend to be Easter and day before.

Pools/Waterparks: Resort pools can fill and it can be hard to find anywhere to sit except directly in the sun unless you arrive early. You also face the problem of those who claim tables with their stuff in the morning and then disappear for four hours. Noon to 3 are the most difficult hours for crowds. Waterparks, when weather is warm enough (usually but not always during that time), can fill to capacity by 11 and then open up again about 2. If you want to find a table in the shade you must arrive early.

Weather: usually some of the best weather of the year with warm days, mid-80s and pleasant evenings. Nevertheless there can sometimes be the cool day (60s).Thunderstorms occur but very often when they do they occur during the night while you are sleeping rather than during the day; nevertheless you can sometimes get a mostly rainy day.

Decorations: Disney does not do Easter like Christmas. There will be some decorations but most hardly noticeable. A number of the resorts usually have egg-hunts and craft things on Easter and the bunny may show up. MK often has Mr. and Mrs. Bunny for character meets for week before and on Easter.

We will be going the week before Easter 2013 for our daughter's birthday. Then the following year we'll be there Thanksgiving week. It will be new for us to be there on such crowded days. I'm honestly not that worried about it though. I figure we've been there a gazillion times and know how to get up early and use fastpass! I think if you don't expect to see every little detail of the parks you can plan wisely and see your top choices! At least..that's our plan! :thumbsup2

Well that sure puts things in perspective. ;) Well I am guessing a week spent a Disney during a crowded week might still be better than week spent at home in Maryland during the rainy season. :rotfl:

I am sure our dd will be very busy during Easter week too. I have to really think about this. THANKS!!! :thumbsup2

As long as you follow a touring plan you are still likely to manage well at the parks... especially in the morning! I agree... week at Disney is still better than a week at home. (But it's a lot more expensive too!) :lmao:

We went the very last week of April, which was 3 weeks after Easter that year. IT WAS HORRIBLY CROWDED, ALL THE PARKS! Seems it was Massachuesetts spring break, I guess the whole state gets off? :confused3
I can't even imagine Easter week.

I would go the week of Christmas before ever tackeling Easter week. Best of luck to you if you decide to go.

Yes, Massachusetts always has the 3rd week of April off... PATRIOTS DAY! Usually CT. has the week before and NH has the week after. CT and NH schools and towns vary by town but yes, ALL OF MA. has that week off everywhere regardless of when Easter is.

We are also thinking of going April 2013, we usually go beginning of AUG. hopefully the crowds arnt any worse.. Aug has big time crowds.. Big rides are usually 60 min waits..

Hi Hope :) Have you ever been the week between Christmas and New Year's? I have heard horror stories.... I still feel like Easter can't be as bad. I just might have to alter our plan if we do go to make it more of a RELAXING vacation with not much park time. I just want to be able to see Britt midway through her time there and that is the best time because of the boys still being in school. Shoot if Britt was our youngest..I would probably FLY DOWN ever month for a few days. :cloud9:

We found it easier to take the train around the park than to try to WALK thru bcuz the crowds were so dense!!

Summer is nothing compared to Easter. Wait times in summer have more to do with staffing than crowds, in my opinion.

I went for 10 years straight doing Xmas week and Easter week, until the kids got out of high school. Had many trips in July and August also.

One year about 10am in Magic Kingdom, on xmas day, I realized I couldn't move independently - the crowd just carried you along.

The week before and after Easter are both super crowded. I don't do those weeks anymore, but if I did, I wouldn't make the parks my priority.

We went for Easter once and it was absolutely the most crowded we have ever seen it. They closed the MK. It was so crowded you could not move on Main St. CMs finally came out and had us exit the park through the back of the stores.

We will never, ever go at that time again. And yes, we were at the park for rope drop.

Maybe that was a fluke but I am not willing to try it again. Good luck.

Thanks everyone.... I am going to decide tomorrow what we will do. I know my parents are going to meet us there and there is NO WAY they will do crowds like that. Unfortunately this will be the best time to go for my family, so we will have to maybe do mornings and then leave at lunch time. If nothing else... we can venture off site and do some off the beaten path stuff. Have to figue it all out and fast though.
