Any doofuses (Like Me!) trying to cram an emergency visit in to see Maelstrom?

I feel bad for the people mourning a loss of a favorite ride. Our family has written it off much like the Stitch ride at MK and would not ride if there.
When will the new ride open? Hopefully you will love it too and have memories of Maelstrom when you ride it.
We did feel like you when MSEP came back a few years ago. It was supposed to be only for the summer so we made a special trip to see it.

I was planning on coming down at some point anyway to visit my brother, who works for Disney, but this sealed the deal! Flying down Thursday night and returning Sunday night, so very quick trip, but will be making a little pilgrimage to Maelstrom to say goodbye. I'll even watch the movie this time! :)

I was thinking...I really don't patronize the other rides with lame themes that replaced rides I loved. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Stitch's Great Mistake being the main offenders. I will maybe ride the Frozen ride once just to give it a shot(if there is a minimal line) but otherwise I'll just avoid Norway like the plague.

I was thinking the same, yes, get a fastpass and ride it once. I like Frozen but I'm not a huge fan and will likely end up abandoning Norway to the kiddies after that, except maybe the bathroom as it's in a good spot for drink around the world.

Yes. I changed our FP+ for Oct. 4 from Mission:Space to Maelstrom. One last time... Although we don't ride it often anymore, it brings back memories of our early trips. :)

Our upcoming trip only has 2 days in the parks @ WDW

We have FP+ at MK day of our arrival and the next day (10/5 the last day for Malestrom:bitelip:) were going to do TL, then the MNSSHP party.

We have an extra MYW non expiry tix, may have to drop by on 10/5 pre-party to pay our respects to an attraction we will miss. Unfortunately, it will likely be a long standby.

My WDW trips are usually around the 2nd-9th of October. This year, I had to book later. Now, I'm going to miss riding on Maelstrom before it closes. :sad1: I am so upset. :( I didn't get to ride it last year, either.

I was supposed to go down for a weekend trip in November for my birthday, but this Doofus had to go on Maelstrom one last time, so just yesterday we quickly booked a trip to go down this weekend. We live in NY. I told my DH I know this is kind of crazy, but he thought it sounded like fun, so off we go!

EP and especially WS holds a very special place in my heart and I am really sad Maelstrom is going away. I'm so happy I will get to ride it one last time.

I'm going next Saturday for Dapper Day, but I have a little evil plan to wear a t-shirt that says 'Occupy Epcot' on one side and 'Save the Maelstrom' on the other so I can wear it while I ride it over and over before the evening events in DHS.

And no, I'm not kidding. :cool1:

What exactly are they changing? I thought Frozen was based on a Canadian fairytale?

Anyway, Maelstrom was OK. Even though I have worked with North Sea Norwegian oil companies, and thought the ride was fun once or twice, it has shown its age. It did not appeal to the ordinary Disney guest. So, although I will miss that oil rig (assuming it goes), and other parts of the ride, I think it was time for a change.

I was much more upset with the changes they made to the Mexican ride.

I usually ride Maelstrom a few times on each day when I'm at Epcot.

I'll be there for October 4-6 for the Tower of Terror 10 Miler, so I'll definitely be going on Maelstrom.

I am with you. I had just asked DH yesterday if we could go down for my birthday-yes just one day-Oct 4th, the day before it closes. I would even drive from Iowa lol!!:rotfl:

Fellow doofus here! We already had a trip planned for 9/28 - 10/4 but, when I heard the last day FPs were available was 9/27, we added a day so we could ride Maelstrom once more.

I've always liked the ride , but DS loves it. During his 2-4 year old stage, he made us ride it over and over and over. Once, when staying at BCV, we rode it every night for about an hour before park close...on our last night, the CMs were so impressed with DS's enthusiasm, they let us take the last boat of the night solo. :thumbsup2 Good times! DS thought it was the bomb!

We did snag a FP for the end of the night on 9/27 thinking we might get the last ride ever, which would be so cool, but of course the close has been moved back until 10/5 so its not to be. Nonetheless, we shall ride it many times during our trip and remember it fondly (hoping that Frozenland isn't a quickly tossed together abomination that makes us miss it even more).

I have only been to Epcot once (ten years ago!) and have never been on Maelstrom. We're going next week, but I suspect the lines are going to be crazy if it's going away. I hope I get a chance to ride it!

I've done Maesltrom twice (maybe three times) in my last 10+ visits.

Couldn't care less about it's pending termination.

Wow, your response was not what the OP was asking and it seems a bit rude and uncalled for. If you didn't want to respond to the question then its best to ignore. But then again with today's social media we can be rude with no ramifications. Have a good day!!

We were just there in May and rode it many times (kids love that ride) and even stayed to watch the movie once when we usually don't. With that said, DH agreed for my girls and I to do a girls trip during their Spring Break in April, so I really don't see him agreeing to us going on an emergency trip just to say good bye to a ride :(. I guess I just will have to relive it through YouTube.

I wish I could! I will miss this ride just like I miss the Viking ship Disney took down outside. When my son was younger he had so much fun there with his imagination sailing the seas!

Change is always hard.

So, although I will miss that oil rig (assuming it goes), and other parts of the ride, I think it was time for a change.

That is so funny that you mentioned the oil rig. My DD13 is scarred to death of that thing (always have been since her first Maestrom ride). Every time we ride it, she always covers her eyes and buries her head in my shoulder, I have to make sure I tell her when we are passed it. Now that is a Doofus for ya :rotfl:.
