Any Disney Club members renting with Alamo?

I also posted this on the Transportaion Board, but here's just a little FYI for anyone planning on using Alamo that is a DC member...

I was on Mousavers.com and read this:

"Disney Club members get up to 20% off rentals at Alamo. Use Rate Code BY and Promo Code/Assoc ID# 801988 when reserving.
In addition, the Disney Club newsletter for January 2003 has a coupon for a free day when you rent a car from Alamo for five or more days. It must be used with the Disney Club Rate Code and Promo Code above. Thanks to Dave B for info."

I already had booked an intermediate with just using the DC codes, and luckily I had saved our January newsletter from DC, and I plugged in the coupon code, along with the DC codes, and it worked! We saved $24 bucks with the Free Day coupon, and brought the grand total down to $198 for 9 days.

But when does the coupon expire? Thanks!

I rented from Alamo once in Orlando and swore I would never do it again. We had several problems. First of all, they are not in the terminal. My then-pregnant wife practically got trampled in the mad rush to board the shuttle bus that took forever to arrive. When we got to the Alamo location, there was a line out the door and halfway into the parking lot. Once we finally got inside, there were about 20 stations to attend to customers, but only 5 people working. I thought that was pretty lousy service considering that most customers have reservations so the company should know about how many people to expect. So between waiting for the shuttle and then waiting to register, we wasted over an hour. When we did get the car, we noticed right away that the back seat was soaking wet, so I had to go back inside and exchange for a different car. Seems to me they should check the car before they rent it out.

Except for that trip, we've always dealt with Dollar. They are in the terminal and even on busy days, I've never waited for more than about 20 minutes. No shuttles to deal with and we're on our way in no time.

You might want to check and see if the savings is worth the hassle. (You do usually pay more for the convenience of renting in-terminal, but we think its worth it.)

Steve - Sorry to hear about your experience with Alamo. We also had less than satisfactory experiences with Alamo in the past.

However, Alamo is now in the MCO terminal. Alamo and National now share in-terminal counters as well as the in-terminal space for cars. That happened not too long after ANC (parent company of both Alamo & National) filed for bankrupty. There have been several positive reports on Alamo since then. When we returned our National car this past December (shortly after the combination), an Alamo employee actually helped to resolve a problem with National's billing for me.

Anyway, I may give them another try if the price is right, although I'll go with National's Emerald Aisle service if there isn't too big of a difference.

Carol - Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware that Alamo had come on-site. That would definitely make me much more likely to use them in the future. And I wouldn't be surprised if the new Disney Visa offers some special tie-in with them since they are the official car now.

My mom and dad were just down a couple of weeks ago and they used Alamo....picked up the car at the Dolphin Hotel (since I got to play chauffer while they were at Disney) and dropped it back off at MCO. The were great. Pick-up only took a few minutes and the car was very clean and low mileage. Also, my mom ended up getting hurt in Naples and having to fly home early. Since the airline was going to charge an arm and a leg to change the flight to out of Naples, they decided to drive back to Orlando. When they turned the car in and heard why, they offered a refund on the unused days...very compassionate since they didn't have too and my dad hadn't asked. The only reason that he told them about my moms injury was because they asked him if there was a problem with the car or their service...if that was why he was turning it in early.

So I would say, that they are trying to improve their customor service.

THANKS Mark! I just reserved a full size for 8 days and with the coupon it came to $201.72. This is by far the best price I have found for our dates. I had completely overlooked the coupon that came last week with my Disney Club newsletter, but it saved us another $22. We definitely wanted to rent from someone onsite at the airport this time and the price is great. Thanks again!

Now, how do I make the next 81 days fly by????? :earsboy:
