My brother lives there but I haven't been able to get through to them in the past few days. They may have taken the family and move further north to my sister in law's family but I am not sure. Can anybody report on how things have been during this hurricane for the folks in Mt. Dora? I really appreciate any info you can give,

Thanks,

Linda

Mount Dora is further north than me, but I have the local report I can share.

They had much the same as here, much rain and high (but not hurricane force) winds. The bad news is that they are in the direct path of many of the tornadic winds that were spawned from the swirling bands of the main hurricane.

There have been no reports of specific damage or injuries in Mt. Dora.

The phone lines are a little messed up. A local call came through for me, but my friends out of state could not reach me.

Give it a bit, and try again. I would guess that you'll reach them by Tuesday.

If they did evacuate, then they'll have the roads to contend with on the trip home. It is expected to be quite a traffic jam when they all return.

Try not to worry, but I know that is much easier said than done.

not much help here but i did talk to my friends in mt dora on fri night and they were basically just hunkering down and waiting for the wind and rain

they were mainly worried about flooding more than anything else

Gary's house is on a lake, and it sits back about 200 feet from the water. It is a big old historical house called " The Palms" that he and my sister in law just bought and are in the process of restoring. The house was built in the 1800's. When they bought it the house had hurricane shutters on every single window and one of the first things Kate intended to do was to remove them because it made the interior of the house look too dark. I am hoping and praying that that is one of the projects they haven't gotten to yet. I look at it this way--that house has been standing for 200 years and has probably been hit by many a storm. I am sure it will make it through this one, but it would be nice to know for sure.

Hi Linda!
DH and I plan to drive thru Mt Dora in Nov on the way to WDW ...it's supposed to be a quaint "antiqes galore" town. Can you recommend any places that I should go see?
Thanks!

It is a lovely little town full of great antique and other shops. As I am notmuch into antiquing I paid more attention to all the little gift and food shops. There is a charming little english tea shop on one of the side streets. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, but the town is small enough to walk almost anywhere. Enjoy!
