Any disadvantages to booking room only instead of package?

We usually book a package, but some of the dates we are looking at going, it is not letting us book a package for the room type we want, but will let us book room only. I know booking room only and adding tickets can be cheaper, but what do we lose out on by not booking a package? I can think of the pin and lanyard which we like, but can do without to keep the dates we want. The deposit is higher because it is one night of the room, but I'm going to pay it all eventually anyway, so that is not too big of a deal. Is there anything else we won't get, or any other disadvantages to booking room only? I went ahead and booked the room, but did not buy tickets for now since I can buy those anytime.

There aren't any disadvantages other than Disney won't send you luggage tags and whatever else they send out. It's been years since I've booked a package so I cannot remember what they send ahead of time.

I’ve never understood why anyone buys packages. Booking things separately allows for easier cancellations/changes as you don’t have to buy tickets till the last minute.

So I’m curious to see the responses.
This has been my experience also. You have way more flexibility buying room and tix separately and usually you can get the tix cheaper from LMT or Ares or UT.

I did a package this time in order to book the room type I wanted (GCH 2-bed suite). It was "unavailable" if I tried room only. It's my first time doing a package through Disney so I'm excited for the small cheap perks.

I’m thinking ahead to summer 2020, and want to make sure we get the rooms we want (Poly CL). I’ve been considering packages, but I’m afraid no rooms will be available if I wait to book until the packages come out for 2020! Or should I not worry about that?

Isn’t it correct that you can reserve a room only at 455 days out? And, if a RO discount comes along & you try to apply it later, is it the kind of thing where Disney needs to cancel & rebook in order to apply the discount, or is that only if you try to switch over to a package deal? Thanks!

This thread is about Disneyland. It sounds like you are asking about WDW.
