Any Difference if We Purchased a 4 cylinder or

I drove my FIL's Honda today (95 Accord). While it drove very well the pickup on the highway was lacking. Also pickup on a slight incline was horrible.

I don't know if I would be happy driving a 4 cylinder again. I am too used to the excellent pickup that my Aztek has.

We live up here in the White Mountains and have had 4 cylinder Camrys. There is plenty of pep! When following a timid tourist through Crawford Notch (tourist in the left lane with big backup behind, solid rock wall on the right) I have been known to pass on the right with no hesitation and power left over. Luckily DH wasn't with me at the time!

Don't worry about a lack of power in a Camry 4 cylinder. We would have bought a 4 cylinder Avalon but they don't have them.

American cars with 4-cyl are no-nos. That's probably why some people are bashing them so hard on here. However, Japanese and German cars with 4-cyl are a different story. My VW, while not the quickest on the road, works just fine with the base 2.0. It actually seems to have better pickup when passing on the highway. The 4-cyl in these cars can last forever and ever too. If 4-cyl are no good, then why does Audi put them in the A4 and TT. Or why does BMW put them in the 3-Series or MB in the C-Class?

I have a fairly new Toyota Camry 4-cylinder. It is great. I test drove several cars in the 6-cylinder (Camry, Altima) and honestly the engine had way more power than what was required for the kind of driving I do: commuting and the occasional trip. I really never need to pull out quickly or accelerate at high speeds (I wish). I don't notice any kind of lagging at all--very peppy and I get gas mileage right around 30 mph average. I do remember having a 4 cyl Nissan Sentra and that was a real drag.
