any "decent" hotels within walking distance?

Trying to create a truly "budget" trip to take DD and her friend to Universal in July or so this summer for the HP Universal area! Wondering if any hotels other than the 3 at Universal are close enough to walk in am and pm.........or if any have shuttles that are doable? The 2 girls are 15, so they can handle the walk, just do not want it too long......

Doubletree at the entrance to Universal is a great hotel. They just spent a fortune remodeling, the rooms are large and very comfortable and they're running $89 a night thru the summer. They are right across the street from Universal and there's a lighted walkway from the hotel to the parks. Plus they're giving discounts on food and merchandise at the parks.

Hyatt Place Universal is new and very nice too.

Both of those hotels were going in the $30's through Priceline. They are 3 star hotels, there are also some 2.5's within walking distance. We have also stayed that the Sheraton Four Points, the round hotel you see when you get off of the Folorida Turnpike onto I-4 West. That is 1 mile from Universal. So you have a good choice of hotels within walking distance.

I would second the Double Tree which is on the corner of Major Blvd/S Kirkman RD. There are a lot of hotels on Major Blvd with a big range of prices. Also a lot of restaurants locally (Ale house last time i stayed there) and an I-Drive trolley stop close. Takes about 15 mins to walk from there

Did you have to priceline for them? I cannot find such good rates.......how do I priceline to get these specific hotels?

You don't bid on a specific hotel. You're bidding for a zone and a minimum * level. You might get one of the hotels that are in walking distance of Universal. You could also wind up with a hotel a few miles from Universal. You could wind up having to pay a resort fee. No guarantee the hotel offers a free shuttle. No guarantee the shuttle schedule meets your needs.

I wouldn't use PL unless you're prepared to rent a car.

I've gotten the Hyatt Place like 4 or 5 times for $40-$60,good clean hotel,the only negative is the breakfast area is too small.

I'm sure you have but a PL reservation is pre-paid. Can't be cancelled or changed. There are a number of hotels in the Universal zone that aren't in walking distance.

I wouldn't use PL unless I was going to rent a car, or was willing to rent a car depending on what hotel I get.

I actually used Hotwire,which has a system that's similar to Priceline.

The Hyatt Place is very nice and offers free breakfast. It is a suite hotel.
The Doubletree is not bad either.

Wasn't there a website where some guy had a walking picture tour of different hotels in the area and their walk to Universal? I don't remember the name, but I remember looking at it when I planned our last trip to Universal in 2004.

I'll second the DoubleTree at the entrance to Universal. I stayed there a while back (when it was the Radisson Twin Towers). It's a great location, very convenient.
