Any fellow Curves members have any idea how to get that type of workout on the ship?

:bounce: I don't go to Curves but one exactly the same called Women's Express Fit and I was wondering the same thing. Houzer:Pinkbounc

Hi. I'm a guy, I know, but since noone else has answered, I actually think I can. From what I have seen of your program on a local morning news program, I'd have to say no. The only fitness center aboard ship is in the back of the spa, has a very nice overlook of the bridge of the ship. It has a number of treadmills that face the glass, some freeweights and I think 1or 2 machines. All in a room about the size of a regular guestroom at a deluxe resort at WDW.

I am a former curves member.

If you have access to the Curves book written buy the founder--it will have tips for doing your curves routine at home as well as on the road. I have the book (or at least I had it...) and it had photos in it of the exercises and what you needed to do.

You can use excercise bands or pack a set of free weights if you like. (The bands would pack better and are available in varying tensions.)

You can either work out in your stateroom or go to the gym and combine your workout with the treadmill. Basically--off an on the treadmill to do your 30 seconds strength and 30 seconds toning.

You should also be able to consult the employees at your curves studio. If they are as knowledgeable on the curves workout as they should be, then they should be able to provide you with information on taking your workout on the road when you don't have access to a studio.

Sorry...

Additionally--I had reinjured a should and when I was a member, I could not utilize any of the upper body machines. For a while I couldn't actually exercise my arms--so I did plies at the arm stations and did the leg machines and rest stations. When I was able to use my arms--then I did the motions of the arm machines--but did not actually use the machines.

I say this--as that is another way to replicate your workout. Just make a list (if you don't have the book) of the different workout positions your studio has and go to town when you are on board.

I'm a Curves - a - holic myself. Curves is the only program I've ever been able to stick with but don't think I have the dedication to do "alternate" exercises on vacation. The ship doesn't have the circuit training stuff.

While on the Magic, I didn't do any "regular" program of exercising. However, I did take the stairs several times ( I have bad knees or we would have done stairs all the time instead of elevator). You can walk around deck 4 (3 times around is a mile) DD and I walked a couple of nights and DH and I walked another night. Didn't do any strength training except push aways - you know - pushing away from the table before you gorge yourself.....That was hard enough.

We went to WDW after the cruise and walked LOTS. Net result is that I was a pound and a half lighter when I weighed AFTER the cruise than the previous month and lost an inch so I met my goal of not having the cruise wreck my program.

Then you get back home and continue at your home club.

I am glad that you brought the topic up! I meant to ask one of the girls at Curves that very question today and I forgot. I think walking lots is our best choice, but I may check out the bikes in the spa.

If I find anything out from my Curves this week, I will pass it along!

CM_Mom, you must be my twin :wave2:. I am a Curves-a-holic also and it is the only program I have ever stuck with. I was wondering how I was going to fit in a workout but then I did think "Hey, I am on vacation." My plan is to walk a lot, maybe check out the gym, and take the stairs whenever possible.

Beth (Corl4) since we're cruising together -- are you going to DIS meet?

Hi all, I highly recommend walking around the ship on Deck 4 several times about 10:45pm, then changing into your swimsuit and getting in the hot tub by the adult pool for a really relaxing way to wind down. The hot tub is open till midnight and there were only a few people out there. FANtastic way to end the day.

I was a Curves member for a year, but quit when my contract was up. Didn't even go the last three months because I got so bored with the routine. However, be aware -- when you stop, your body really does "drop". All the toning, etc. is only good as long as you are relentlessly using their equipment. When I stopped and tried a different exercise routine, everything I had accomplished at Curves disappeared!

If you need your Curves fix while on the Eastern cruise there is a Curves in St. Thomas not far from the Dock. talk to your home Curves to get their travel/guest paperwork. I was so surprised to see one there. Its about a 5 minute walk from the docks, past the Pardise Point tram.

:Pinkbounc Wow! Thanks for all the great responses! I'm going to check with the Curves staff tomorrow morning! This has been my first week back after a 3 week lay-off...I started the South Beach diet and had NO energy for 2 weeks. But I lost 10 lbs. so far and would like to drop a few more. I know I'll be OK with the diet on the ship but was concerned about the workout!

TootyJane: I'll definately be at the DIS meet. Maybe we can figure out a workout together!

One week from today we'll be in Cocoa Beach anxiously awaiting Saturday morning!!

How interesting to find out about a Curves in St. Thomas. I guess we'll just have to book another cruise so I can check it out!!!::yes::

The only problem is that St. Thomas day is short already so don't know if I would want to take time out for Curves. As someone else said, it IS vacation after all.

Corl4, I just may have to pick your brain about SB diet. Although I've lost several lbs. I'd like to lose a few more. See you at the DIS meet. :)
