I know canadians can't get a disney visa (unless they have proof of US address) but I was wondering if there is anything else out there that would benefit me for when I go in July or planning another trip. I have a standard old Visa with a low interest rate (6 or 7%) and low annual fee ($25), but i'd like to look into something else if there is anything that someone else has done that they would recommend. I can get an AMEX with a low interest rate of 2.99% and no annual fee for the first year (before it skyrockets!) so I was thinking of doing that for my disney trip as I know I can't pay the balance all at once so I figured at least I'd be then getting airmiles points and a lower interest rate for 2-3 months as I pay it off.

I'm just curious if there is anything out there that has helped others in any way that I may want to look into. I'm with TD bank or I would have switched to the scene visa eons ago, (Maybe) depending on interest rates etc...

Thanks
Erin

We use the BMO Airmiles Mastercard and pay extra fee a year so we collect 1 Air Mile for every $15. Put EVERYTHING on it and easily earn enough to get flights and passes from Airmiles.

Not Disney rewards but we can get passes with the Air Miles so it works for us.

We did the same thing and got 6 flights in the past two years using Air Miles and the gold BMO MasterCard. We also use a US BMO MasterCard to pay for our trip to save the US to Canadain service fee that credit card company's charge you.

We collect Aeroplan points and have the CIBC Aeroplan credit card. We use it for car rentals when ever we go away. I would love an actual Disney Visa - maybe one day we can get it through a Canadian bank.

My favorite cc to use also. I love the fact that you can get 25% off flights. It is an amazing deal and saves me a fortune, especially if you travel during the high seasons. (Christmas)

Yup we like the BMO one as well, plus RBC has the westjet MC. We easily saved up in a short time booked a vacation (just dh and i) with westjet for the spring and saved $500!It ended up being cheaper then booking through Disney (rare I know), so it worked for us.

Thanks for the insight everyone. I do have an airmiles card, but hardly anywhere I go collects points, and when they do I forget.

I decided to give the BMO card a shot. I don't fly much so I went with the regular card, 1 point for every $20. I figured I would try to use it for most things that I can and would pay off right away. for instance buy gas and transfer the amount that day type thing, just to avoid carrying a balance as much as possible and really just for the points. If I need to purchase other things I will use my lower interest rate visa. I'll just see how it goes and if it isn't working out for me, I'll just cancel the card.

Thanks

Heres a questions about the BMO card, if you use it at a store such as Rona that already gives airmiles, would you get double airmiles?

We do the same as you, but we use the American Express Platinum card, which gives you 1 airmile for every $15, or 1 airmile for every $10 everywhere that accepts airmiles. Plus, you earn a 1150 airmiles bonus on first use of the Amex Platinum. But it does have a $65 annual fee some don't like (waived for first year).

Not double, but you should get credit for your normal airmiles as well as the credit card airmiles. We do with the Amex Platinum.

I use an Amex Air Miles CC and the BMO Air Miles CC as sometimes Amex is not accepted and besides, so I get my bills on different cycles;-) Thus I end up collecting Air Miles which I have redeemed for Disney passes on a few occassions. On the Amex, you need to spend less amount at certain places to collect miles - ex, for the LCBO here in ON, you get 1 AM for every 15 bucks you send there plus whatever bonus on what you purchase. And I look for the cheapest wine with the most AM cause when you've had too many, it's the AM's that count:lmao:

Yes. You get the 1 for $20 for the purchase on your card plus whatever RONA gives.

I have my car and house insurance plus all other monthly payments such as my cell phone paid thru my Mastercard. I just pay back the Mastercard. Really racks up the points.

Yup! We do it all the time. It's advertised on the website as "double dipping". We always gas up at Shell, shop Safeway most of the time, and will go to totem/Rona over home depot any day!

We easily get over 5000 airmiles a year!

Thanks, currently wondering if the Amex is better, but, i'll get a lower interest rate with BMO if i get the lower interest rate with the annual fee

I received an offer of 1,150 air miles for the AMEX card, so I applied & received it. I'm waiting for the air miles to post to my account now. In the meantime, everywhere I shop I pay by AMEX (if I can), and reimburse it immediately.

I love the amount of air miles I receive at Shell now that I pay with AMEX. I get the AMEX air miles, plus the regular air miles AND my last 4 fill-ups I had bonus coupons of 15 air miles. :goodvibes

After the bonus air miles are applied to my account, I'm going to apply for the BMO card to use at places who do not accept AMEX. Then cancel my Visa.

I thought about that, but I like the lower interest rate of the Visa I have, and also I do order a fair bit online and Visa converts the currency no problem, but BMO charges a fee of some percent on top of the conversion, so I'm keeping my visa for online ordering.
