Any creative suggestions on how to tell kids we are going to WDW?

My DIL and I are taking the kids to WDW and the NSSMHP. We would love suggestions on creative ways to tell the kids we are going to WDW.

Fill a small room with balloons and inside one of them put a rolled up paper announcing you are going. My dh filled the room and our girls had a ball popping balloons filled with confetti until they popped the one with the note. The video is so sweet.

We ordered a jigsaw puzzle from Shutterfly. It was one of our photos of the WDW entrance with the words "You're going to Disney World for Spring Break!" across it. We divided the pieces into separate bags for each kid, and the three of them had to work together to put the puzzle together. We were surprised how long it took for them to figure out what it said!

Just make sure to tell them in advance; last-minute surprises don't always work out. Kids have a funny way of putting importance on something "big" happening at school that they will miss out on, or worrying because they didn't get to say goodbye to their kitties, things like that. I have a friend whose son held it against her the whole trip because she lied to him. She'd told him they were going to the airport to pick up grandma or that they were flying to grandma's (I can't remember which now- it's been 20+ years) and they ended up at Disney World; "You lied to me!"
(Revealing the truth about the easter bunny, tooth fairy, and santa didn't go very well, either.)

Plan a scavenger hunt in back yard.

Buy a set of small Disney character Halloween stickers.

Take a look around your yard for things that can be ‘found’.

Rocks, sticks, flowers, leaves, candles, planter pots, pillows, chimes or lawn ornaments…

Make a list of what already exists out there that the kids could find.

Try to make up a riddle for each one.

Example - Fluffy and red will put you to bed (for the red pillow cushion on an outdoor lounger set).

Put the stickers on items outside (hidden underneath or on the side).

Figure out the grand finale item, an object that you could hide the reveal clue about a WDW Halloween trip in or on, and that lends itself to a good or funny riddle. Maybe start with this item first. Think about what you might use to giveaway the trip secret, what it could be hidden in and what type of riddle or funny joke will lead the kids to it.

Have fun and a fantastic trip! Can’t wait until we have grandkids so they can join us. It must be the best kind of WDW trip!

We did the day of surprise before…twice. Went great once the second time not as great but still ok.
This upcoming trip is a UO/wdw trip so we told them by giving them each coordinating hogwarts house shirts and asking why they would want them. Could do something similar…coordinating shirts or a “present” with a bunch of stuff you would need anyway for vaca…travel sized toothpaste, Disney bandaids, portable phone chargers (depending on their age)…roadtrip games or snacks you might take on a plane…anything that says vacation without actually saying it and ask them to guess why they’d need this stuff. It’s funny and practical but probably won’t work if the kids are below the age of 6. Also if they are older mess with their YouTube lists so a bunch of Disney videos show up every time they log in…will only work though if that’s not what the algorithm gives you already….not saying that happens to me or anything

How old? Do they know what Disney World is? If not, I would watch some videos with them to give them an idea before you spring a surprise on them. A lot of kids need time to warm up to an idea.

I gave them a $25.00 Disney gift card and promised to take them to the Disney Store at the mall. My granddaughter looked at me in horror and said “there isn’t a Disney Store at the mall anymore”. I replied “then I guess you’ll have to spend them when I take you to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween” party. It took a few seconds to click in and then she was jumping up and down while her brother was still confused. She finally told him grandma was taking them to Disney World and he got just as excited.
