Any Coaches (or players) out there? Need gift ideas!

My son is (finally) finishing up his career in basketball. He has spent five years at Hillsdale on a basketball scholarship, one year being red-shirted due to a knee injury.

Anyway......his last game is this Saturday. Soon after will be his final basketball banquet. I would like to get something for his coach but have NO idea what would be appropriate especially at this level of basketball. Not sure if the gift should be from me and DH as the parents or just from our son??

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Things like gift certificates for restaurants, hotels, spa (although, it's probably a guy ) are always great, but to be totally honest a letter or card from your son about how much he appreciates his coach is the best gift!

(Just so I have some credibility, I was a volunteer asst. coach at a college last year, and my dad is the head coach at a university)

bekkiz has some great ideas.... but I agree that the personal touch is what means the most.

The most touching story I ever heard from a college coach was based around a simple phone call. The coach had not heard from this player in over 5 years. The athlete searched for the coach (he had moved "up the ladder" to better schools several times) and finally found his phone number..... he wanted to call and tell the coach that he and his wife had just had their first child.

I vote for the hand written card - and a promise to keep in touch. As the parents, I would say just a personal handshake and a thank you would speak volumes.

If you or your son are creative you could write a poem about the coach and/or team. I've seen parents doing this in a way to thank the coach and I've also seen a player do it. Of course, I've never done it because I'm not creative!

Hockeymom.....just had to tell you my son has traveled several times to Erie Pennsylvania to play Gannon University!!!

Thanks for the poem idea.......not sure if we're that creative, tho!!!
