Any chances at all of booking HHI in summer at 7 months?

We would love to take my parents down there in the summer and have never been. However, I keep reading about how impossible it is to book anything in the summer unless you own and are doing it at 11 months. Do the owners book everything well in advance of the 7 months? I'm seeing lots of availability for now, but I realize that owners will just go in and book when they want to (and they should be able to!). However, I don't want to get my family's hopes up if this is a pipe dream. We would be trying for a two-bedroom and I understand there are 76 of them as they're the majority of units.

Anything I should be aware of in terms of booking patterns here? Should I even bother trying or is it owners only for July and August?

We booked two bedroom and a one bedroom at 7 months for July 2016. We had a great time with 4 generations at HHI for a week.

I have book July 4th week/weekend at HHI at 7 months without issues.

Likely depends on when and size of room (your desired 2BR always has a better chance than others). I assume you will not be considering the 3BRs any time soon which are the more difficult to get throughout the summer. HHI has a large number of 2BRs and a limited number of studios and 1BRs. I cover below June through August. If you are considering moving to Sep, you can easily get anything after Labor Day. As to the June through August:

Hardest time to find rooms is all of June and about the first 7 or 8 days of July. What you will often find during that period is that any given week (regardless of day of the week your start date is) will be missing anywhere from 3 to 4 days (usually not all in a row) in each size room, studio, 1BR or 2BR, although you can sometimes get lucky. After July 7 or 8 and through end of August, it is more like 2 to 4 days usually missing for studios and 1BRs (but again you might get lucky at times), but 2BRs may be missing only a day or two at most and they are often randomly (no particular start day of a week is favored) open for a full week. In other words, you likely have a good chance of getting that 2BR but you may need to be flexible on start date and you may need to check on a regular basis for openings until you find all the nights you want in a row.

Is it that these months are getting booked far in advance or do they disappear right at the seven month window? Just wondering at what point I should gain or lose hope...

I don't mean to hijack the thread, besides the summer months, are there other times of the year that would be warm enough to swim at the beach?

As to when fills began, I cannot really answer except I know I saw for second half of June that several days that filled did so about 7 1/2 months out (but there were some others that had already filled some time before then). Nothing at HH filled at exactly 11 months out except 3BRs once in a while.

As to beach use, we have been to HH (although not the Disney resort itself) at times in Sep after Labor Day and just before mid Oct and it was fine then and we actually consider that period the best time to go to HH (significanlty lower crowds than Memorial Day to labor Day). It is also a time when DVC HHI was open at 7 months out last year and this year at 7 months out.
